Burn the Marriage, Keep the Crown novel Chapter 52

"Can you explain to me why you're so kind to Cynthia Lynwood?" Frederick was utterly baffled.

Aaron stared into his vodka glass.

The light in the private room refracted off the glass, piercing Aaron's eyes and forcing him to close them briefly.

"Could it be that she's got something on you?" Frederick speculated, seeing no other possibility.

Aaron rubbed his temples. "That's my personal business, and I don't want to talk about it."

Frederick was left speechless.

He shifted the conversation back to Serena.

"Since Serena suggested it, maybe you should let her go."

Aaron met Frederick's gaze, his eyes cold and unfathomable. "I won't let her go."

Frederick fell silent again.

...

Early the next morning, Serena contacted the logistics company and forwarded Director Thomas's information. After completing the tedious electronic forms, she finally received confirmation.

"Everything's set, Miss Sullivan. When Mr. Thomas arrives, we'll have a courier deliver the package."

"Great, thank you."

Serena hung up and glanced out the second-floor window.

Seeing that Aaron's Rolls Royce wasn't in sight, she felt relieved enough to head downstairs.

However, as she descended, she found Aaron seated at the dining table.

Dressed in a suit, his crisp white shirt complemented by a casually knotted sky-blue tie, Aaron looked almost ethereal in the morning light streaming through the window.

Serena couldn't take her eyes off that tie.

It was the one she had given Aaron three years ago for his birthday. At the time, he had disdainfully tossed it onto the couch, leaving her quite hurt.
