"I'll be out for a bit! Be right back."
Aaron left Rosewood Gardens with his phone in hand, while Serena continued her meal, head lowered, as if nothing had transpired. Yet, when she reached for a napkin, her hand trembled slightly.
After finishing her meal, Serena retreated to her room. Despite not intending to pursue Aaron anymore, the sting of watching him run back to Cynthia Lynwood over and over, after seven years of love, was unavoidable.
She submerged herself in the bathtub, letting the warm water soothe her, drifting away from reality.
When she emerged from her bath, it was already eleven o'clock at night. The house was silent. Aaron hadn't returned, as expected.
Serena changed into her pajamas and lay down, scrolling through her phone as part of her nightly routine before sleep. But then—
She saw a message from Cynthia Lynwood.
"Serena, don't get too comfortable. Even though Aaron made the Mitchell family go bankrupt for your sake, I'm still more important to him than you are."
Serena had ignored countless messages from Cynthia in the past, never feeling compelled to respond. But tonight—
"Isn't Maggie your friend? She went bankrupt, yet you seem completely unfazed."
Cynthia seemed surprised by Serena's sudden reply, taking a moment before sending another message.
"She went bankrupt because of her own stupidity. What does it have to do with me?"
Serena smirked. She wondered what expression Maggie would have upon seeing such words from her "best friend."
Just as Serena was about to switch to another app, Cynthia's message came through again.
