Burn the Marriage, Keep the Crown novel Chapter 71

At this point, Aaron was still naively convinced that they could reconcile.

So…

Even if she reported him, he wouldn't think it was unreasonable?

"Really?" Serena's lips curled into a sharp, mocking smile.

Aaron frowned. He disliked Serena's smile, it felt like a hedgehog's quills pricking him.

"Yes."

"Okay." Serena lowered her head, but beneath the covers, her hands clasped tightly.

She had to keep Aaron calm, lull him into a false sense of security, so she could find a chance to escape.

Seeing her obediently lower her eyes, Aaron felt much better, as if she'd sheathed her quills.

He picked up the soup, taking a spoonful and bringing it to Serena's lips. "The temperature is just right, give it a try."

In the past, when Serena was sick and miserable, she had fantasized about Aaron being by her side, taking care of her.

But Aaron had never been there.

Now, that dream had come true, yet what was once a beautiful dream had turned into a nightmare.

"I can do it myself." Serena sat up straight.

Aaron insisted, "You're not feeling well, let me help."

Serena glanced at Aaron, repeating to herself, "Patience is a virtue," before lowering her head and accepting the spoon.

The soup's warmth was indeed just right, but it wasn't as good as the soup she would make.

Her recipe was meticulous.

The water had to be from the Frostpeak Mountains, only that mountain spring water could capture the true essence of the ingredients, and the ingredients themselves were specially selected.

Serena took a few more spoonfuls before losing her appetite.

"I'm full."
