Serena subtly turned her body, hiding her face in the shadows as she swiftly changed out of her evening gown.
“I bumped into your sister,” Aaron mentioned casually.
Despite Serena's quick movements, Aaron caught glimpses of her skin, smooth and pale like silk.
His gaze darkened slightly, and he frowned.
“That girl is getting more and more out of hand. I'll have a word with her after the celebration.”
A sarcastic smile tugged at Serena’s lips. Vivian didn't respect her because Aaron didn’t truly care about her.
She absentmindedly tugged at the zipper on the back of her dress, lost in thought.
Suddenly—
The zipper got stuck.
No matter how hard she tried, it wouldn’t budge.
Serena’s expression changed. She wouldn’t ask Aaron for help; every time she did, he coldly refused her.
“Let me,” Aaron’s lazy voice broke the silence, echoing softly in the room.
Serena’s heart skipped a beat. The next moment, a hand rested on her shoulder, holding the fabric taut.
His large hand, even through the thin fabric, felt like a brand, causing her cheeks to flush slightly.
She held her breath.
Behind her, Aaron’s gaze was equally intense. Serena’s skin was as white as porcelain.
The zipper closed inch by inch, each movement heavy with tension.
Their breathing became distinct in the hushed room.
“I heard,” Serena finally broke the silence, “you’re announcing your engagement?”
Aaron paused, “Who told you that?”
“Vivian.”
“Nosy as ever.”
Detecting the irritation in his voice, Serena’s lips curled into a faint smile. As she suspected, Aaron was announcing his engagement to Cynthia Lynwood.
