Serena had only lost a kidney, but Cynthia Lynwood was at risk of losing her life.
"Let her rant," Aaron said, his voice steady.
If it made her feel better, then so be it.
Victor and Julia exchanged uneasy glances.
"Aaron, you're a man who can't own up to his actions, right? You want my kidney, but you don’t even have the courage to face me!" Serena's voice rose with anger.
The anesthesiologist in the operating room glanced helplessly towards the door.
Aaron furrowed his brow but eventually walked into the room.
Seeing Aaron, Serena's eyes burned with a fierce intensity. "So, you've finally shown up!"
"Serena, calm down. Cynthia really needs your help," Aaron said, locking eyes with her. "If you help her survive, I promise I won’t let you down! Whatever you want, even if it's all of Vance Holdings, it's yours."
"I don't want anything! I just want control over my own body!"
"Serena, if you donate your kidney to Cynthia, she will live."
"If she dies, what does that have to do with me?"
"How can you be so indifferent? That's a living, breathing human being," Aaron said, frustration creeping into his voice.
Serena laughed. "I'm indifferent? And you're noble? If you're so noble, why don't you donate your kidney to Cynthia Lynwood?"
"My kidney isn't a match for hers."
Serena paused, then laughed louder, tears welling up in her eyes. "Oh, I see. You've already been tested for compatibility with her. Aaron, you really care for her!"
She couldn't even compare to a single finger of Cynthia Lynwood.
Aaron's brows knit tightly. "Serena, Cynthia can't die. I promised..."
"Fine!" Serena cut him off. "I'll give her my kidney, but on one condition: you give up one of yours too, Aaron. Can you do that?"
Aaron was silent.
Serena's laughter turned more mocking. "Aaron, didn't you say Cynthia Lynwood is important to you? It's just a kidney. Why are you hesitating now?"
The anesthesiologist, noticing Serena's increasingly erratic state, quickly reminded, "Mr. Vance!"
Aaron looked at Serena.
Her laughter was captivating, her lips a vivid splash of color, her eyes bright and alive, like a flower in full bloom, radiant under the sun. Yet the sorrow in her eyes added a veil of fragility.
"Proceed," Aaron turned his head away.
