"Isn't that right?"
Kou Mei had apparently had enough. She spoke without raising her voice, but her words were sharp as a knife. "Whenever someone speaks in a way that contradicts Captain Zheng, you're always the first one to respond. What's the matter? Are you too afraid to admit that you like Captain Zheng and can only silently admire him?"
Her words hit the other female pilot like a heavy stone, crushing her spirit.
The female pilot stood up abruptly. "Kou Mei, I warn you not to speak out of line!"
"What can you warn me about?" Kou Mei threw her gloves that she wore when flying onto the table.
She glanced at all the other pilots present. "We've been supporting the disaster area for so long, everyone is tired. If you have something to say, just say it directly. What's the point of putting on a show of authority? And you don't need to stare at me. If I could be intimidated by a single look from you, then I wouldn't be in this line of work."
Zheng Congyu's gaze turned increasingly cold. "You don't want to do it anymore, is that it?"
"Kou Mei, just hold your tongue." One of her colleagues pulled Kou Mei back.
To everyone's surprise, Kou Mei, who rarely spoke and hardly ever clashed with others, pushed back.
"You hit the nail on the head. I really don't want to do it anymore."
Silence fell upon the conference room.
Zheng Congyu silently stared at her.
Kou Mei stood there, her disappointment evident in her eyes. "I have worked diligently for China Airlines. Whenever the company needed me, I never refused. Including all of you here, every time you said you had an emergency or needed to change flights, when have I ever turned you down? Do I never have anything going on, do I not have a life of my own? I fly for over ten hours and still have to fly in your place. Am I made of steel?"
"And what have I gained from all this?" Kou Mei slammed her hand on the table. "What I've gained is you all teaming up against me, isolating me!"
All the pilots who had once received help from Kou Mei hung their heads, not uttering a word.
Kou Mei pointed at the female pilot, "And you."
"What gives you the right to be the captain of the flying team? Are you more skilled than me? Do you have more flying hours than me? You have nothing that makes you better than me, yet you suppress me."
"I've had enough of this place that values flattery over meritocracy."
