His eyes fell on the person behind Mike, and the words didn’t dare to leave his tongue.
Mike also sensed his brother’s sudden changes of expression, turned his head, and saw Nina standing just behind him with a complicated expression.
“Miss Xiver, do you need something?” Mike asked. Since she had come to his brother’s door, she had something to say: Should he stay or be cut off from there? Before he could decide, his brother looked at him with fiery eyes.
“Go downstairs and see if Noah is ready." Ace knew his overthinking brother would start his foolish brain again and overthink nonsense.
But it didn’t matter, since he would do it, anyway.
Mike slipped away; Nina awkwardly looked at her toes and didn’t dare to look straight at him because she felt too afraid to even be in his presence.
Ace patiently waited for her to say whatever she came to say; Nina gathered her courage and raised her head; she fisted both her hands and finally spoke up,
“Mr. Welsh, I want to come along with Noah; I don’t want to leave my son alone.”
Both of them were silent after her sudden outburst; Ace looked surprised, while Nina looked nervous and waited for his answer.
“Miss Xiver, doesn’t you trust me?” This was the first thought that came into Ace’s mind; after what he learned, he knew he was a stain of terror in her mind.
Nina again lowered her head, thinking he was getting angry because he felt she couldn’t trust him and saying this.
“No.” Then she heard his answer, which stunned her. She raised her head again and looked at him with a frown between her brows.
“What do you mean you can?” Weirdly, Nina sounded a little angry at his rejection.
“Miss Xiver, since I’m taking our son with me, then it means I can protect our son, and to assure you, I won’t let even a stretch come to our son.” Unlike usual, Ace’s eyes were still calm, and he sounded so gentle that even Nina was left speechless.
But when he said our son, Nina’s heart skipped a beat. They always talked about my son, but this was the first time Ace said our son, which felt strange to her. Not in the wrong way, but still, she was not used to it.
“Mr. Welsh, it’s not that I don’t believe you, but in Noah’s matter, because all my beliefs and patience are limited only to him,
I know my son is going somewhere where he can be in danger. I can't even trust myself. It’s not about whether I believe or not.” Nina tried to sound calm, but only she knew how much courage she needed.
