Hearing Mrs. Grant’s words, Marshall broke into laughter.
Still, she hadn’t realized what’s wrong with her behavior and foolishly thought that she did a good thing.
Marshall finally knew that why hadn’t anyone come downstairs and consoled her even with all her crying.
They were all probably livid with anger.
Marshall stood up, “I’d better check my dad upstairs.”
Mrs. Grant immediately got edgy and grabbed Marshall’s wrist, “Marshall, are you also mad at me? I’m doing all this for you. You don’t like Katherine and don’t want to be with her, so I helped you to spread the divorce so you can get rid of her. Can’t you see I’m merely doing this for your own good?”
Marshall drooped his eyes and gazed at Mrs. Grant. Then he asked in a while, “For my own good?”
Then he even laughed, “So if I say I like Katherine, can you accept her for my own good?”
Mrs. Grant instantly got tongue-tied and stammered, “There is no way that you would like that farm girl. She is no match for you. You should be with Clara...”
“Would you look at yourself?” Marshall directly interrupted Mrs. Grant’s words, “You are constantly saying that you did everything for me, but it’s even not what I want. You should ask yourself the reason you choose Clara is because you like her or you feel that I like her.”
Eyes wide open, Mrs. Grant got nothing to say.
Marshall glanced at her and went upstairs.
Old Mrs. Grant had already gone to bed, but Khalid was still in the study.
Marshall knocked on the study door, but it was all quiet inside.
Marshall had no choice but to call Khalid, “Dad, it’s me.”
Khalid then went over and opened the door.
He looked mighty tired, “It’s you.”
He thought it was Mrs. Grant.
Marshall went in and closed the door, “I had someone to contact the press, but the Hendersons probably had known everything at this point. I’m not sure if they would expose the divorce to the public for the sake of Clara’s reputation.”
Khalid pinched at his brow bridge and sat on the chair, “Right, I’m thinking about that too. Your mother is too muddle-headed. I really don’t feel like talking to her right now.”
Marshall went over and sat across Khalid, “What should we do next?”
Khalid heaved a sigh, “I will find a time and contact the Hendersons. Let’s wait and see what they want to do.”
They had no better options right now.
After lying down on the bed, Katherine surprisingly dozed off quickly and had a sound sleep till next morning.
She was actually taken aback herself by how undisturbed she was about the whole thing.
After having a shower, she went downstairs and found that Marshall’s car was not in the yard which indicated that he didn’t come back last night.
Katherine fried the dumplings from last night and scrolled through the gossips online while eating.
The Internet didn’t have her divorce with Marshall yet, so it looked like that Rosalie had withheld it for now.
No matter what, she owed the Haverfords a thanks after what they had done for her, Katherine thought inside
They must have gone through a lot of troubles.
After having the breakfast, Katherine gave Kyle a call.
While she had just dialed Kyle’s number, Marshall’s car drove in.
Katherine stared at the car for a while and Kyle just answered the call.
Katherine chuckled, “Kyle, are you up yet?”
Kyle was still in bed, but still, he said, “Don’t you see what time it is? Of course I’m up.”
Katherine grinned and ignored the drowsy hoarseness in his tone.
Seeing that Marshall had got out of the car, Katherine went upstairs with the phone.
While heading upstairs, she asked Kyle, “I got to thank you about yesterday. If it weren’t for you, the Internet would be bombarded with my news right now.”
Kyle then let out a sigh, “Katherine, I got to be honest with you. we might be able to prevent this wave of press, but there is no guarantee on keeping this a secret forever should way more press learn about this. There is going to be people who want to cash in on this news and stir up the whole thing. You’d better show your marriage certificate to the public, or the fake ones might just be taken as real over time.”
