But Katherine didn’t notice all this, focusing solely on Kyle’s stories instead.
Kyle, too, was oblivious to Hector’s and Katherine’s positions, as he continued to speak mysteriously. “Mr. Grant possibly didn’t find out what the fiancée was up to, or maybe he still had feelings for her, too, but either way, he met with her a few times. Their rendezvous were soon discovered by Mrs. Grant, who barged into the fiancée’s house straightaway and went on a screaming and smashing spree.”
Shaking his head, Kyle added, “From what I heard, Mrs. Grant didn’t mince her words as she cursed out the fiancée and her parents.”
And when the fiancée received the news and rushed home, she ran directly into Mrs. Grant, who, slim and agile at the time, got ahold of the fiancée’s hair and started hitting her profusely. The fiancée, knowing herself to be in the wrong, endured the beating without a word and without ever fighting back.
And then, Mrs. Grant left the scene before Mr. Grant could show up, looking as decent and graceful when she left after a big fight as when she walked in. So, in a way, one could say that Mrs. Grant was resolute, efficient, and quick on her feet.
After the incident, Mr. and Mrs. Grant seemed to have reached an agreement, and Mr. Grant never met with the fiancée from the past ever again.
Katherine thought about it before opining. “The fiancée had it coming, but her parents should have been left out of it.”
It was just like Mrs. Grant to get the parents involved in her cursing tirade, which Katherine was annoyed with.
Looking at Katherine, Kyle said, “That’s why you literally rock for giving her a good beating.”
Katherine frowned slightly. “I don’t care how domineering she gets at the Grant residence, but I will not have her dictating me around and trying to get physical with me on my turf. I’m not a pushover, and I will not be bullied.”
Kyle nodded in agreement. “Right? That’s what I think as well. The purpose of my existence is of course to enjoy life, not to endure any severe hardships.”
Hector was looking at Kyle and Katherine in turn.
Sensing Hector around her, Katherine turned instinctively to him, and they almost kissed because of their close proximity.
Startled, Katherine leaned backwards to hide away from him.
Straightening his posture, Hector apologized. “Sorry, I was carried away by Kyle’s story.”
“No problem,” said Katherine with a smile.
Marshall was standing in the front yard at that very moment, looking at the three of them through the living room window.
From his perspective, it looked like Katherine was affectionately resting between Hector’s arms, and Katherine appeared to turn around to plant a kiss on Hector before they exchanged a smile.
Marshall closed his eyes with a frown, unsure what he was doing watching them. It wasn’t exactly a pretty image he was looking at.
Instead of joining them, Marshall got into the car and drove away. He must have been insane to drive here in the first place. Why would he do that? What was being in Katherine’s vicinity going to do for him?
Nothing.
On the way back, he received a call from Grandma Grant, who inquired about his whereabouts, and why he didn’t go home after work.
Marshall knew why grandma was asking – she was worried about him. With no dinner engagements and a lot of trouble on his plate, he couldn’t really go anywhere else.
Marshall replied that he worked a little late and was heading home right now.
