CEO Proposed to His Ex-wife 99 Times novel Chapter 301

Katherine looked slightly confused. She did feel like something was wrong with Marshall, but what exactly it was she couldn’t tell.

“He just…he was just very nice to me yesterday,” said Katherine after scratching her face for a while.

Kyle paused. “What do you mean? Hasn’t he always been nice to you?”

Katherine stared blankly at Kyle. Well, Marshall was surely nice to her in front of Kyle – he could even be described as doting.

Katherine took in a deep breath. “I can’t really explain it.”

Hector looked at Katherine. “You should stop meeting him as often now that you are divorced. Gotta watch out for the gossip that might arise if you are ever caught.”

Katherine nodded in agreement. “Yup. My thoughts exactly.”

Grabbing Margaret by the arm, Katherine drew over a chair and sat down. “What were you talking about just now? Kyle was looking pretty animated.”

Kyle chuckled. “Nothing much. It’s just that Hex has decided to quit his job.”

Katherine stared in surprise. “For real? That’s great! Have you decided to compete in the talent show instead?”

After some hesitation, Hector nodded slowly. “I wanted to give it a try.”

Katherine raised a hand and patted Hector on the shoulder. “Go for it, then. We’ll be your cheerleaders. You’re a talented guy, and I’m sure you’ll make it.”

“Yes, rest assured, because with talents like yours, you can make it anywhere.”

With Margaret present, Kyle could already envision a poker game in his mind, so he yelled, “Hey, you guys wanna go back to my place and play some cards?”

Feeling a bit down, Hector nodded after glancing at him. “Well then, let’s go and have some fun.” Because he was in need of some light fun so as to change his mood.

Margaret, having nothing better to do, wanted to hang out with Katherine a little longer. So the four of them went to Kyle’s club.

The club wasn’t usually in business during the day, but occasionally it would be chartered by some rich guys, since with the myriad of entertainment facilities, there was plenty to do for the guests, day or night.

When the four of them arrived at the club, they were informed by a waiter that there was a group of people “enjoying themselves” in the backyard, and that the guest who chartered the club was Marcus Russell.

“Really?” said Kyle, waving a hand carelessly, “I know that guy. Don’t mind them and leave them to their shenanigans then. We’ll be upstairs, so we won’t have to interact with them.”

In the backyard, there was a music room, a billiard room, and a bowling room, among other things. Katherine had never paid those facilities a visit before, and she didn’t intend to, either. Being a naturally sedentary person, she had no desire to visit places where she had to use her hands and move around a lot.

The four of them chose a private room upstairs and began the game.

Margaret, still, wasn’t very good at it, so Katherine suggested that instead of hard cash, they should just cover their faces in strips of tissue paper as a punishment for losing. Kyle didn’t care one way or another; he was happy as long as he had enough company for playing cards.

The quartet sat down, started playing, and got so invested in the game that they forgot the passage of time. As they were happily concentrated on the game, the door to the private room was abruptly kicked open.

“Nobody move!” someone shouted at the same time. The voice came so suddenly that Katherine was startled.

Kyle, being the out-of-luck person that he was today, had hardly won any round. Consequently, his face was covered in strips of tissues. Plucking these strips out of eyesight, Kyle yelled in the direction of the door. “Who the hell asked you to come in? Don’t you see I’m in the midst of a game?”

Katherine yanked the tissue paper strips off her face and turned her head towards the door. The people who came in were wearing police uniforms. The gadgets in their hands she had only seen on TV.

Katherine was surprised. That was a pretty impressive crowd for busting a couple of gamblers.

A male officer took the lead into their room, followed by a female one. Apart from traffic policewomen, that was the first time Katherine had ever seen a female police officer. Unsure what to make of the situation, Katherine handed over her strips of tissue. “We’re not gambling money. Just tissue paper.”
