Mr. Fay’s dark eyes seemed to pierce right through Quincy. “No matter how successful you are in your career, you're still just someone working for others. My daughter deserves the best. Just because she chose to gain some experience on her own doesn’t mean she’s an ordinary person.”
His voice remained calm, almost devoid of emotion, but the words were sharp and cutting.
Quincy had earned respect from many due to his outstanding abilities and his close association with Nash York. People regarded him highly, partly because of Nash and partly because of his own competence. Nash, known for his high standards, wouldn’t keep anyone around who wasn’t exceptional.
But in Mr. Fay’s eyes, Quincy was still not good enough.
Quincy remained composed. “I’ve known Lydia’s background since the day she joined us. We both earned our positions through hard work. If you think my current job isn’t good enough for her, I can start my own business. But I owe everything I have today to Mr. York, and I plan to stay by his side. I’m not looking to change careers.”
His response was firm and unwavering. Without Nash, Quincy wouldn’t be where he is today. Resigning now would feel like a betrayal, like biting the hand that fed him.
Besides, Nash couldn’t easily find someone as loyal and capable to replace him. And if Quincy left, Lydia would follow.
If they both left, it would be a double blow to Nash, especially now that his focus was on his children and Nina.
Mr. Fay’s expression remained cold. “Even if you promised to change careers right now, I still wouldn’t agree to let you marry my daughter.”
With that, he turned his stern gaze toward Lydia. “It’s time to stop playing around and come home. I don’t want to resort to using force to bring you back.”
Throwing those words at them, he walked away without looking back.
He hadn’t dragged Lydia away this time, but his message was clear.
Lydia looked worriedly at Quincy. “Quincy, my dad, he’s not—”
