Mr. Fay maintained outward respect for Quincy in front of the business partner, formally introducing him, though he didn’t mention that Quincy was his future son-in-law.
“So, this is one of Mr. Fay’s younger associates, huh? He certainly looks capable!” the business partner praised.
“You’re too kind,” Quincy replied modestly.
Despite the polite introduction, both Quincy and the business partner sensed the subtle distance in Mr. Fay’s tone when referring to him. This led the business partner to form a somewhat mixed impression of Quincy.
Still, Quincy remained calm and composed. After a brief round of small talk, they sat down for dinner. The meal, served in a luxurious five-star hotel, was abundant. However, Quincy’s mind was elsewhere, focused on Lydia.
He knew she had been struggling with morning sickness lately, and he was usually the one making sure she ate properly. He couldn’t help but wonder how she was managing on her own.
Quincy discreetly pulled out his phone under the table and sent Lydia a quick message. She responded almost immediately, and they began exchanging casual messages throughout the dinner.
By the end of it, Quincy was smiling without even realizing it, his lips curling up naturally as he texted her. Mr. Fay noticed the interaction and the affectionate way Quincy had saved his daughter’s contact.
With a soft scoff, he thought to himself, “At least he treats my daughter well.”
Still, Mr. Fay hadn’t taken Quincy all that seriously yet. He had never seen Quincy in action at work. However, when the business partner started asking more pointed questions about the project, Mr. Fay’s opinion of Quincy began to shift.
The partner posed a tricky question. “I hear your company is fairly new, relying on support from the York Corporation, correct?”
Quincy acknowledged it openly. “That’s correct.”
“So, your confidence stems from that partnership?”
Quincy smiled, putting his phone away. “I’d be happy to discuss that in detail. Would you mind giving me fifteen minutes?” He then pulled out a thoroughly prepared proposal, something he had worked on before even arriving in Salt City.
