CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery novel Chapter 1391

She wasn’t just laughing at Eugene. She was laughing at herself.

Time and again, she had trusted the wrong person. “Trust isn’t something that’s just given. It’s something you earn. Just go. There’s no reason for you to be down on one knee in front of me. Don’t do this. It doesn’t mean anything.”

“Lydia!” Eugene reached out again, desperately gripping the hem of her coat. He held on tightly, not daring to let go for even a second, fearing that if he loosened his grip, he would lose her forever.

“Just go home. You’ll have your life, and I’ll have mine,” Lydia said firmly, slipping out of her coat. “I told you before that we can’t even be friends.”

Eugene was left holding nothing but the coat, watching helplessly as Lydia walked away with her parents. Mrs. Fay glanced back several times, as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she just picked up her pace and disappeared with Lydia from his sight.

Once they were home, Lydia didn’t bring up Eugene. Instead, she dove straight into work. “Mom, Dad, I’d like to start at the company this afternoon. Do you have my position sorted out?”

Mr. Fay waved a hand. “There’s no need to rush. Take a couple of days to rest at home first.” Although he had arranged everything, he found himself hesitating at the last moment, reluctant to see her jump into the daily grind.

“Dad, you’ve got gray hairs now,” Lydia remarked, reaching over to pull a strand out.

“It’s just a few,” Mr. Fay chuckled. “I saw them last time I looked in the mirror. It’s normal for someone my age.”

“Got it. I’ll get started right away.” Lydia had taken up the alias “Lily Fay” at work, choosing not to use her real name.

The afternoon was busy and fulfilling. After she had completed the document formatting, her supervisor assigned her a few more tasks, which she handled efficiently. She even stayed late with the team to finish a project, only heading back to her apartment once everything was done.

That night, no one knocked on her door, and there was no one waiting outside her building. She slept peacefully.

The next morning, Lydia was up early, eager to get back to work. It was her family’s company, so besides her assigned tasks, she was quick to take on additional responsibilities wherever she could.
