Karina wasn’t eager to turn to the association for help. After all, the people there weren’t just disliked by Wilfred—she couldn’t stand them either.
Hesitating, she muttered, “When the time comes, something will work out… right?”
Wilfred glanced at her indecisive expression and sighed lightly. He could already tell she hadn’t given the matter much thought. “I figured it’d be like this. I’ve already thought it through for you. If you need a recommendation letter, I’ll write one for you.”
“Really?” Karina’s eyes lit up, and she couldn’t suppress the excitement in her voice.
She had considered asking Wilfred for help.
His reputation and capabilities were unmatched—even those in the association couldn’t hold a candle to him.
But Karina had hesitated, feeling like she had already leaned on him for too much. He had helped her in countless ways. Asking for a recommendation letter felt like pushing the boundaries of her gratitude.
Her joy didn’t last long before she faltered, voicing her concern, “But isn’t that asking too much of you…?”
Wilfred cut her off, his tone decisive. “You’ve called me ‘Dr. Wilfred’ before, and now we’re friends. Something this trivial doesn’t even count as a bother.”
Karina beamed, her worries melting away. At least now, she didn’t have to fret about finding someone to write her a recommendation letter.
Wanting to repay his kindness, she took it upon herself to care for him, even taking over tasks from the housekeeper.
Outside the kitchen, the housekeeper hesitated as Karina tied on an apron. “Miss, are you sure you want to do this yourself?”
It wasn’t that she doubted Karina’s abilities. It was just that Wilfred was unwell. His stomach was sensitive, and even the housekeeper was cautious about what to prepare.
Glancing at Karina’s delicate hands, the housekeeper couldn’t help but urge, “Let me handle it. You’re young, and the kitchen is full of smoke and grease. It’s not the best place for you.”
