But Karina still felt embarrassed.
Noticing this, Wilfred stopped what he was doing, sat back in the driver’s seat, and fixed his gaze on her. In the light, his usually dark eyes softened to a deep, rich brown.
His stare made Karina fidget, her heart pounding in her chest. She was certain her face was already bright red. “What is it? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Wilfred’s lips curved into a faint smile, so subtle it was almost imperceptible. “If you really want to thank me, hurry up and write a proper thesis.”
Thud!
Karina’s heart skipped a beat, and any trace of excitement crashed and burned.
She was momentarily speechless. How could someone constantly bring up writing a thesis? Wasn’t that the least romantic thing he could say?
She completely forgot how flustered she had been moments earlier, unable to even meet Wilfred’s eyes.

Once the lawyer was arranged, the next step was filing a lawsuit with the court. This was beyond Karina’s scope, so she left everything in the lawyer’s capable hands.
A few days later, the woman came to the hospital specifically to thank her.
Karina reassured her, “There’s no need to thank me. What you need to do now is work closely with the lawyer. Stay strong! I believe in you. You and your daughter will get out of this nightmare soon!”
“I will!” the woman replied, wiping away her tears before leaving.

Word about the situation spread around the hospital, and Yvette marveled at Karina’s kindness. “You’re like a walking good deed! Do they give out awards for helping people? If they do, I’ll be the first to nominate you.”
Karina sighed helplessly. “I doubt there’s an award for that, but if there’s trouble to be had, I always seem to get my share.”
Still, she didn’t regret it.
Seeing her resolve, Yvette gave up trying to talk her out of it.
Karina gritted her teeth against the pain and yelled at the stunned patient, “Go! Get help now!”
The patient hesitated for a second before running out, panicked and screaming for assistance.
Karina exhaled in relief, but her scalp burned with pain as the man yanked her toward the window. In an instant, her upper body was hanging outside.
The office was on the fourth floor. There were no railings outside the window, and it was large enough for a grown adult to fall through entirely.
The man started to sneer, ready to respond.
But Karina wasn’t actually trying to reason with him. Trying to reason with someone clearly unhinged wouldn’t work.
She was just using this as a way to distract him.
