Wilfred’s lips curved into a faint smile. He gently brushed back a stray strand of Karina’s hair from her cheek, his gaze so tender it seemed almost tangible.
“She sure hasn’t changed. But with her around, the hospital feels so much livelier. When we get back, we should really thank her properly for keeping things running smoothly there,” he said warmly.
Taking her hand, his palm reassuringly warm, he added, “Come on, we’ve got some time before we head back. Let me take you somewhere.”
Curious, Karina let him lead her, weaving through streets and alleys until they arrived at a charming old street with a distinctly exotic flair.
Lining the street were elegant boutique shops with window displays showcasing beautifully crafted clothing—unique cuts and high-quality fabrics that spoke of both style and luxury.
Wilfred glanced at Karina, his eyes filled with adoration. “We’ve been so caught up with the project that I haven’t had the chance to take you out properly. Pick a few outfits you like as a gift, alright?”
A faint blush spread across Karina’s cheeks, and she nodded shyly. Hand in hand, they stepped into one of the clothing stores.
The shop’s interior carried a subtle, refreshing fragrance, and a cheerful salesperson greeted them warmly, speaking in halting Birkhamese while introducing the latest designs.
Wilfred stood to the side, his gaze never leaving Karina as she browsed the racks. When she picked up a pale blue dress and held it against herself, its soft fabric swirling around her, she looked stunning—like a living painting.
“That looks amazing on you,” Wilfred remarked sincerely.
Karina smiled, a little embarrassed, and selected a few other simple yet elegant pieces. Wilfred took them all without hesitation, carrying them to the counter and paying effortlessly.
As they left the store, his arms were full of shopping bags, yet he didn’t seem the least bit bothered. Instead, he kept one hand free to hold hers tightly, as if afraid she might get lost in the bustling crowd.
After walking a little further, a vintage photography studio caught Karina’s eye. The weathered sign and wooden doorframe exuded a nostalgic charm.
Her eyes lit up, and she tugged on Wilfred’s sleeve. “Let’s go in and take some photos—something to remember this day by.”
Wilfred readily agreed.
