She hadn’t expected, however, that a quick trip to the restroom would lead her to an encounter with Luna.

Luna, who had just undergone an appendectomy, should have been resting in a hospital bed—yet here she was.

Their eyes met, and for the first time, Luna took a good look at Vera, scrutinizing her carefully.

Vera wasn’t as beautiful as Luna, and Luna had already looked into her background. Mason Corporation had gone bankrupt, yet somehow, Vera had managed to end up by Caleb’s side.

There was no way this was a coincidence.

“Did Caleb make a deal with you?” Luna asked bluntly.

Vera hadn’t expected that question.

But then again, whatever entanglements existed between Caleb and Luna had nothing to do with her.

“Whether he did or not, that’s between me and him. It has nothing to do with you.”

Luna let out a sharp laugh. “That’s bold of you to say. If you hadn’t latched onto Caleb, where do you think you’d be right now?”

So that was it.

Luna finally understood why Caleb had brought this woman to the gathering and why Vera had seemed completely unbothered.

This wasn’t a real engagement.

It was just a ploy.
