For her, there was only one way out.
---
Nina had no idea how she survived the night.
It was excruciatingly long and torturous.
She lay on the sofa, wide awake the entire time.
When she finally became fully alert, it was already the break of dawn.
She was exhausted and feeling completely drained.
Dragging her weary body to the bathroom, Nina washed her face and looked up, only to be startled by her reflection.
She thought she was seeing a ghost. Her eyes were bloodshot, her face haggard and colorless, resembling someone gravely ill.
She touched her face in disbelief, questioning how she had come to look like this.
Was a broken heart enough to completely bring her down?
Could she not live without Nash?
The answer was no.
Hadn't she already contemplated severing ties and divorcing him long ago?
It just so happened that he initiated it this time. She had to move on and live a better life, a hundred times better than before.
Nina made up her mind. One night of sadness was enough and the rest of her days would be lived to the fullest.
She washed her face, scrubbing hard to wake herself up. Once she was more clear-headed, she knew she would not be so consumed by thoughts of love.
After washing her face, Nina stood up abruptly, and the sudden rush of blood made her vision go dark.
She lost her balance and fell to the floor. Without feeling any pain, she fainted. She tried to get up but fell unconscious.
When she woke up again, Nina felt like she had lost half her life, utterly drained both physically and emotionally.
He happened to be a doctor, and he happened to be there to save her. And she felt like a patient.
"What illness do I have?" Nina asked. "Lately, I've been feeling weak and constantly tired. Is it something serious?"
If it was, her life would be truly unfortunate.
Wilfred's expression shifted slightly before he quickly reassured her. "Don't say such things. You're in good health."
"Good health..." Nina laughed. "Someone told me the same thing a few days ago, but I can feel something is wrong."
They had been trying to keep her health issues hidden.
"Don't talk like that," Wilfred said, looking at her intently. "You're just feeling fatigued because of the pregnancy. The baby is taking a lot of your nutrients. Don't overthink it."
He reached out to touch her head but thought better of it and held back.
At that moment, Wilfred became the person Nina could confide in.
Nina said, "You really do care about me. Even if you don't say it, I know we have some kind of history. But I can't remember. I feel like I've lost an important memory, and you were part of it, right? Wilfred, did I risk my life for you once? Is that why you're so determined to help me?"
