Chapter 147
“Can you drive
ve past the
square before we go?” Now it was his turn to frown at me, his entire face screamed nothing but intrigue at what was going on in my head. Even I didn’t understand my sudden idea but I wasn’t going to back out now. Freddie would be safe, for some reason I really did trust Adrian. I never ever would have thought I would trust a wolf to look after my brother, but here I was, knowing he was safe. “You can Leave the truck door open until we leave properly.”
He nodded and jumped into the drivers seat, before slowly pulling out and driving to the square. Flashbacks of all the lashings I’d taken in front of everyone shot through my mind, the little wooden stage sat in all its glory while the two wooden poles, that were there to be tied to providing access to our backs sat in the center of it.
This was were the king made his announcement about my kinds education, this was where my dad was being dragged to before he begged me to shoot him, it was where I took the first lashing of the new world. This was were my mother would have taken her lashing, in Freddie’s stead. It was basically the center for every punishment ever given.
I knew, I couldn’t get rid of public punishments or lashings completely, but I could stop anyone else getting injured here, I could let the king know I planned to join the growing rebellion, I could tell everyone here that I was still fighting for them.
I tightened my grip around the bottle of vodka and quickly grabbed a box of matches before jumping down and out of the van. I walked up the stairs of the stage and stood in the center thinking about everything. My heart was hammering in my chest, but my limbs were still and unshaken. I had never been more sure of my actions than I was in that second.
I poured the alcoholic substance all over the wood and walked around, making sure to coat most of the surface..
“I’m sending the love of my life a message, can’t you tell?” My voice was completely void of emotion as I stepped back down and took the box of matches out of my pocket, lighting one up and watching it slowly burn down the small stick. “I’m out for blood!”
With that simple sentence I threw the match onto the stage and watched as the alcohol caught fire, instantly lighting up the dark night sky. I ran to the truck and dragged my chains out, before throwing them down onto the floor directly in front of the now burning stage, so the king would know it was
- me.
“Let’s go!” I was calm, very calm as I stared at the flames and smoke that began to rise. The entire air would be filled with the scent of burning wood, masking my scent completely. Adrian, Arya and even Nick, would most likely be called out to help with the fire, so they too would be cloaked in the strong smell saving them from suspicion, and his grace would know that I left of my own volition
