Chapter 45
Dylan POV
My breathing was erratic and my head was becoming fuzzy from the lack of oxygen I was getting. I don’t know how long had passed but I felt the girls hand that was on my back leave. I remained on the floor, I didn’t turn around to see why she had left my quivering form. I didn’t dare.
“You are both excused.” I heard the betas voice float through the room and the sound of my bedroom door closing met my ears, I remained on the floor. A pair of leather shoes made their way into my peripheral vision, before I felt a hand on each of my shoulders. “Deep breaths for me, Dylan.”
His voice was soft, and kind, but my body still trembled. The room I was in was growing smaller and smaller by the second and I was definitely beginning to feel light headed.
“Please.” My face was grabbed suddenly and I came face to face with the beta, his eyes were heavy and he looked tired for some reason. He was also sporting a rather intense bruise on his right cheek bone which made me curious as to how he got it. “Look at me… deep breaths.” He breathed in slowly before breathing out, showing me how to do it. For some reason he made me feel at ease. And so, while looking him right in the eye I took a long shaky breath in, and another one out. God knows how bad my breath actually was, but the beta
made no reaction whatsoever.
“That’s it, Dylan. Everything is fine.” Nothing was fine but I felt a little bit better while the beta helped me regulate my breathing. He kept one hand on my cheek and tucked my dirty hair behind my ear. Eventually slowly but surely my breathing became a bit more stable and I was able to respond.
“It’s not fine!” I managed to whisper out while still taking deep breaths. Now, I hadn’t actually seen Lewis in the time I’d been down in the dungeon. So when he finally looked at me he looked shocked at what I’d become, what I’d been reduced to.
“What has he done to you?!” His words came out as a whisper, as he moved back to take my entire form in.. “You look awful.” Wow, that’s just what every girl wanted to hear.
“It’s been a very difficult few weeks.” I wheezed out as I finally got my breath completely regulated. “You
should have let me die!”
“I know your situation isn’t ideal, but taking your own life?! That’s something you can’t come back from.” Well, duh, that’s kind of why I attempted it.
“He’s going to kill me eventually, and you know it, so why not speed up the process and make it my own. decision?!” I clutched my chest and let in one last deep breath before forcing my frail body to stand up. “I don’t want to die, but I cant live like this! I just can’t.”
“He’s torturing me though!” My answer made him stop, he looked at me with eyes full of guilt. “If you ever find your mate, would you treat her the way he treats me?” I knew his answer would be no, Lewis was a kind soul, werewolf or not there’s no disputing that.
“I…” he paused as if he was about to say something, his eyes swimming with unkept emotion, he cut himself off though and instead changed the subject completely. “You should wash up. The water in the bath should help you relax slightly. It’ll make you feel better to be clean as well,”
I just nodded unable to find the words to argue. I did need to wash, but I already knew the first thing I would do was brush my teeth. I hadn’t brushed them in so long, a thick dirty coating rested on every single tooth which I could feel when I ran my tongue over them.
I slowly made my way to the bathroom, my bare feet slapping on the floor as I awkwardly shuffled a long. I went straight to the large marble sink and before anything else, I threw my head under the facet, gulping the water down my throat, I hadn’t actually realized how thirsty I was. I then grabbed a unopened toothbrush from underneath. I smeared toothpaste on it and began to roughly brush the thick layer of dirt off of every tooth. It had been so long since I felt the minty freshness on my mouth and it stung my skin slightly, my gums bled from lack of care and my tongue burnt. I quickly used some mouthwash to make sure I definitely didn’t have bad breath, then I used some dental floss for extra cleansing.
Once I was finished I stared at my reflection, embarrassed by what I’d become. I could feel the anger building up inside me, I felt my hands clench into fists. A small tear trickled down my face before I growled, I took a deep breath and quickly wiped it away, then turned towards the large tub in the center of the room..
It did look very inviting. I quickly made my way to the door of the bathroom and locked it. Then went to the kings entrance and locked that, making sure I wasn’t going to be disturbed. Once all the doors were locked I
