Contract Marriage with My CEO Boss (Kylan and Katrina) novel Chapter 107

Chapter 107

Fourteen months later

It was Christmas Eve. It was already fourteen months after they moved in their home in Maine. Fourteen months she worked from home as the PR specialist of Ross Corporation. And fourteen months since Kylan stayed by her side, only flying to New York when he was needed the most

Right now, he would never admit it, not to anyone, not ever. But Rylan liked I taking the night shift. He never minded getting up at ungodly hours. pulling on his robe and his slippers to make the trek across the hall

She was therefore not surprised when she woke to an empty bed, her phone reading that it was just after two o’clock in the morning. It was freezing, and she didn’t want to leave the warmth of her covers, but she could hear a low, familiar voice nearby and she would never miss seeing Kylan in these quiet moments when she happened upon them

She pulled the duvet away from her body, shivering just before she found and dragged on her robe and slippers, just like Kylan’s

She tiptoed out into the hallway, their house soft and still around her, save the humming coming from the room across the way. The door was cracked open slightly, orange light filtering out into the otherwise darkness

She peered her head inside the room, noticing that Kylan had stoked a fire back to life in its hearth. But her eyes were quickly drawn to the man himself, sitting in a large rocking chair, glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, his parted hair falling in curtains around the top of his face, more grey pecking through lately. It suited him, and she made sure to tell him any time he talked about coloring it

He didn’t need it, she would say. It was him, she would say. She loved seeing him get older, loved being

He wore a pair of royal blue pajamas, his black robe, and his black slippers. She loved all of it, all of him, but what she loved most was what he cradled carefully in his arms

Wrapped in a fluffy, white blanket, bundled to perfection and adored just as much, was their four week old daughter

She could barely make out her unruly head of jet black hair that poked out from the top of her cocoon where Kylan was softly stroking her cheek. He was still humming, unaware that she was watching him

Getting pregnant after moving to Maine was unintentional, and it hadn’t been easy. Kylon struggled with the very concept of being a father, only because he wanted to be the best. He wanted to do it right. To live up to the impossible expectations he set for himself in his mind

She encouraged him, listened to his fears, and shared some of her worries, too. She didn’t have a proper example of who a mother should be, but she leaned on the fact that Kylan did. That he had a mother who had loved him, who had protected him, who had raised him to be the man with the big impossible heart that she cherished

And she had a father, a wonderful father, who Kylan could turn to, and who he clearly idolized

Together, they navigated the uncharted waters of her pregnancy, and now she was here. She was a living, breathing, piece of her love manifested in the flesh. And she was the missing piece of her life’s puzzle

She realized Kylan was singing to their daughter, not humming to him. She strained to listen better, praying the floorboards beneath her feet wouldn’t squeak and give her away

In the morning, when I rise

I looked upon the morning sun

And when I see the radiant light

There I knew you’re by my side

Sweet and cherished, linke child

Sweet and cherished. my beloved

When you grow up, don’t forget

You are loved in every aspect

Don’t be afraid, my little one

In times of trouble, 1 am here

In times of pain, I and near

Look at the brighter side cause I am there”

The lullaby. The same one her mother, and her father, sang to her as a child any time she was afraid. It was also the lullaby she sang to kylan in a hotel room, in the middle of the night, when he refused to wake from a nightmare that haunted his dreams
