Chapter 93
It should be simple. So simple. Walking into the hospital. Seeing Oscar. Visiting him and hopefully lifting his spirits.
But she was scared Termfied in all actuality, of facing Oscar after Katrina held him on the ground. After she watched the ambulance cart him off and she was left behind with tears streaming down her face, and a hole punched through her abdomen.
Now though, the stood outside the very hospital he was in, staring up at the imposing, glass building. Her eyes were wide, her jaw clenched impossibly, and her heart hammering heavily in her chest.
warm hand closing over hers, pulled her out of her worried trance. She flinched, looking over at Kylan.
Kylan Kylan, who had experienced death firsthand. Who had tried to bring his friend back to life. Who discovered his own mother’s body, when it was already cold
He was here. He was with her
She whimpered, turning her body to hug him, to squeeze him. He held her, not an ounce of hesitation in his embrace.
I’m so sorry, Kylan. I’ll be okay. I’m just.. I’ve never. This is all new to me,” she admitted into the safety of his shoulder.
“I know” It was all Kylan needed to say, really. He did know. He would always know, “C’mon, I’m with you” He tenderly peeled she away from him. taking hold of her hand once more.
She wiped the tears from beneath her eyes as best she could, thankful beyond compare that Kylan was with her.
“I’m with you too. Kylan. I’m with you.” she attempted to reassure her boyfriend, though her voice was timid and shaking
“I know you are,” Kylan squeezed her hand, running his thumb over the back of her palm.
She walked with him inside the hospital ignoring the sterile smell that filled her nose and set her on edge. She took the elevator together, holding onto his hand so firmly, it had to be hurting him. He didn’t say a thing about it, though.
er feet were
When she reached the oncology floor, her knees were nearly buckling, and her mind was fuzzy. Her mouth was also terribly dry, and her hardly registering what she wanted them to do.
Somehow, sering Oscar in a setting like this.. It would make it all real.
The bag of gummy worms in her bag crinkled as she rounded the corner and stopped in front of the room that housed her second father
Kylan wasn’t raising his hand to knock, and the glanced up at him. He looked Pale. So much more so than his usual pallor. His eyes were fixed on the door, his jaw as taut as bers
He was trying to hold it together for her, so that she could make it through this.
She could only imagine how devastating this was for him. She also knew that Oscar and Rylan had a long history, longer than her own with either
one of them.
She took a deep breath, rolling her shoulders and nodding to herself a bit.
She needed to be strong Steadfast for Kylan. He likely wouldn’t admit to how bothered he was. and it was up to her to do something about it
“I can go in first, if you want. See if he’s awake. If he’s.. To see how he looks?” she offered quietly,
Kylan’s eyebrows furrowed as he met her worried gaze. She fought the urge to trace his frown lines with her fingertips, instead holding his hand a bir tighter.
I go in with you, Katrina,” Kylan insisted, his voice devoid of nearly all emotion. She could make out a faint tremor in it, though.
She smiled at him with what she could only hope was reassurance. “I appreciate you being here with me at all, Bylan. But I can do this myself, if a’s too much for you,” she insisted.
I know you can. But I want to do this, too, I need to. I owe Oscar that much. I owe myself that much, okay?” Kylan moved his gaze back to the door then and she studied his profile.
If this was about himself, his own need, she wouldn’t take that from him. She would be there for him, just as he was for her.
inside.
“Okay, darling. Let’s go in together. She finally raised her hand to knock, and Oscar’s timid voice drew them in
It was difficult, seeing Oscar bound by machines and cords, many of which she didn’t understand their purpose. helpful to see him

Oscar smiled up at her, his eyes then drifting to Kylan. “T1l be fine. They said the treatments are working, they’re just hard on the body,” he insisted.
Kylan scoffed next to her and shook his head. “You’re not coming back to work, old man. I already told you I’ll pay for whatever you need”
