Chapter 124
“We are the Rosenthal family, and you are one of us. I don’t see any reason why you cannot go back to the place where you were born.” Thomas Rosenthal said, his face devoid of emotion. Fiona stared at him, unsure whether he was geminely ignorant or simply pretending. How could he not understand the hell she had endured all those years?
Was he truly that foolish to think she would ever return to that place! That nightmare? Never!
Fiona snorted, her disdain evident. “You can go ahead and leave, Father. Thave no interest in discussing this with you.”
Lord Rosenthal’s frown deepened. His voice dropped to a menacing whisper. “Then perhaps it’s time 1 reveal the truth–that you’ve been pretending to be poisoned all along”
Fiona raised an eyebrow, her surprise momentary. She couldn’t believe how low he was willing to stoop to drag her back.
But was that really surprising? This was the same man who watched her daughter getting abused by the man he asked her to marry. Is there really something that this man wouldn’t do for the sake of his own interests? However, this didn’t stop her from suspecting something. For a moment. she let suspicion flickered in her eyes, but Lord Rosenthal mistook her reaction for fear–a fear of him exposing her supposed deception to the King and Queen:
“I can tell them.” he continued his tone calculated. “That we, the Rosenthals, are immune to poison. As the blessed ones, we can heal ourselves without effort. And I can prove it.” He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. “You know the punishment for deceiving the royals is severe. Of course, I understand you don’t care about the consequences for yourself. But, what about Prince Elijah**
Fiona’s expression didn’t waver, but her fists clenched at her sides as Thomas took a step closer. Now, he is going to use Elijah?
“He knew about your little charade, didn’t he?” Thomas pressed, his smirk widening “His actions stirred sympathy among the Werewolf community. Now, they see him as a hero and want him to ascend as the next king–without even undergoing the Rite of Kings. That alone could be seen as treason. He’s using you, Fiona, to manipulate public opinion and gain their favor. Or at least, that’s how it might look to others”
He stepped even closer, the smirk on his face growing sharper. “I wonder,” he mused aloud, his words dripping with malice. “What punishment would be a prince accused of attempting to usurp the throne?”
Fiona blinked, her disbelief momentarily silencing her. Then she spoke, her lips curling into a mocking smile. “You How creative. Perhaps being an author would suit you better.”
She cut him off as she taking a step forward. Now they stood mere inchies apart, neither willing to back down. Her smirk deepened. “Are you threatening me, Lord Rosenthal?”
Thomas’s expression darkened, his confidence faltering for the first time. The punishment he had implied–death–was severe, yet Fiona showed no sign of fear. Why?
Her calm demeanor, her mocking smirk–it unnerved him. Was she hiding something else?
“Thut was a warning, Fiona, Lord Rosenthal said. “At the end of the day, I am still your father. I am the clan head, and you shall listen to Obviously, consequences will be given once you disobey.”
I say.
“Hah!Father!” Fiona chuckled, turning her head away as she coyly covered her mouth with her hand. “Will you listen to yourself, Father?” she said. her voice laced with mockery as she emphasized the word Father.
Her gaze shifted back to him her expression hardening. “Where were you when I told you Zach hit me for the first time?”
“You’re talking about the past—
Where were you when Elise pushed me off the cliff when we were younger!” Fiona interrupted, her words sharp. “Didn’t you say it was a mere misgaderstanding! That a werewolf wouldn’t die from being pushed off a humlard–foot cliff? Didn’t you laugh it off, saying Elise was just playing
Lord Rosenthal’s face stiffened, but Fiona didn’t stop. Her voice K
Krew steadier,
angrier, as the words poured out.
“Where were you when Zach slapped me so hard my lips bled! When unished tears. “I begged you,” she continued, her voice tracking slightly. “I begged you to let me inside the clan house. I beggest you to let me leave Hy face was swollen beyunal recognition?” she asked, her eyes burning with him. I knelt before you, asking you to save your daughter from that, abuver“
Tears began pooling in her eyes, but she made no move to wipe them away. She didn’t try because she felt sad about the past. She cried because there weren’t enough words to describe the desperation she had felt back then–the helplessness.
