Chapter 93 

As Envoy Calis stepped outside, he cast a quick glance back at the house before meeting Aedric’s eye. They stood in silence for a moment, each reflecting on the exchange that had just taken place. 

Calis’s jaw tightened slightly as he thought it over. He had come here expecting a simple task, assuming that if anyone made the situation challenging, it would be the Prince–not Lady Fiona After all, she was from the outside world and, by all accounts, more concerned with healing than politics. But he’d been wrong: Lady Fiona wasn’t just another noble out of her depth. She had made it very clear that she was no easy target, 

Aedric broke the silence, clearing his throat and looking uneasy. “What now, Calis? She didn’t exactly welcome us 

Calis shook his head, casting a look over the bustling village. “We’re here to help, Ardric, so that’s what we’ll do. This village has needs, and Lady Fiona’s made it clear she expects us to contribute.” 

Aedric’s brow furrowed as he scanned the crowd. “But there are too many villagers here. Helping all of them. it’s impractical” 

Calis narrowed his eyes at Aedric, irritation sparking beneath his calm exterior. “Did you think our job was to sit around and merely observe. Aedric! Or did you think this assignment was simply a formality?” 

Aedric glanced away, a hint of embarrassment crossing his face. “I thought our job was just to monitor her, to ensure she wasn’t doing anything.. problematic,” 

Calis rolled his eyes. “You’re missing the point. Right now, everyone here sees us as allies. They greet us, they smile at us, and they look at us as part of Lady Fiona’s entourage. If she decides otherwise, this attitude will shift overnight, and we’ll be the outsiders. Is that something you want?” 

Aedric’s frown deepened, his mouth tightening “But why should I have to dirty my hands with this? We’re Beta–blooded. We aren’t supposed to be working for Omegas,” 

Calis caught the flash of disgust in Aedric’s expression and sighed inwardly. He’d known this attitude would be a problem. The rigid structure of their world, with Betas looking down on Omegas, was firmly embedded in Aedric’s mind. 

“We’re here to represent the council, Aedric. That means we don’t get to decide who we deem worthy of our help, Calis said, his gaze firm. “Lady Fiona isn’t holding to any pack hierarchy here. These people are her priority, and the council sent us to assist her. If you can’t accept that, then you’d best brace yourself because the Stormvale Pack will suffer the consequences” 

Aedric’s face twisted with frustration, his fists clenched. “This entire setup is backward. We’re Betas, Calis, not servants. Why should we degrade ourselves for Omegas!” 

Calis crossed his arms, his gaze hardening “If you don’t adapt, Aedric, you’ll be the one facing disgrace. You heard the rumors- influence is spreading, and the people admire her more with each passing day. They see her as one of their own, while we’re just outsiders. That

Andric looked around, his expression conflicted. He could see the villagers watching them, some still offering friendly nods and waves. But Calis could tell from his posture that he was struggling to reconcile his status with the situation they found themselves in. The old ways, the rigid hierarchy, and the sense of superiority–everything he’d grown up believing was being tested. 

After a long pause, Aedric finally sighed, looking resigned. “Tine, Calis. I’ll help them. But this doesn’t feel right. It feels… beneath us.” 

Calic offered a curt nod, satisfied for now. “Good. And remember, we’re here on behalf of the council. Our behavior will be noticed, and so will our intentions Lady Fiona may be a healer, but she isn’t blind to our motives. So, if you want your Pack to maintain any respect or influence, you’ll adapt. Now, let’s get to work”
