Daemon appeared out of nowhere, his gaze sweeping over the approaching swarm of flesh–eaters.
“Perhaps I just saved the day.” He gripped both of us, and the blink of an eye, we were gone.
He stopped at the pack’s borders.
He hadn’t been able to travel this far the last time, and the only explanation for that was that he had fed on
someone.
“Where is Cynthia?” I asked, my voice barely recognizable, I warned you–I told you the only one who gets to kill her is me.”
“Of course, and that’s why she’s waiting in the dungeons. You’re welcome by the way.”
“You didn’t stick to the plan,” Alexander said, his voice calm but sharp.
“But I came back.”
“Yeah, that’s what’s surprising,” Alexander replied, his gaze narrowing. “Why? You must’ve figured out the girl was never in the castle. You didn’t have to save us, yet you did.”
“We made a deal, and I’m a man of my word–well, I try to be.” Daemon said with a small smirk, but I could still see the disappointment in his eyes. We hadn’t brought back Aliyah.
Daemon led me down to the dungeon, and every step I took, doubt gnawed at me. He was a demon, after all— masterful at deception. But when we reached the room, there she was. Cynthia, tied to a chair, blood dripping from a wound on her neck, a grotesque chunk of flesh torn away. I glanced at Daemon, but all he did was shrug.
“I got carried away.” He said.
She was almost as pale as a demon; maybe that was because she had lost a lot of blood.
She looked up at me, and I could see the pain in her eyes, even shame. Whatever Daemon had done to her, she’d
hated it.
There’s no light left in you, Cynthia. Only darkness. An empty void. You spent your entire life consumed by hatred, scheming ways to destroy my parents, using anyone and anything to get what you wanted. But you failed.
Now, as I end you, I want you to look at my face. Burn it into your memory. You might have killed them, but you made the fatal mistake of leaving one of us alive.
My claws extended, my whole body filled with anger as I remembered all she had taken from me. I might never recover them, but now they’d die in peace; their deaths had been avenged.
I sank my claws into her chest, watching as blood poured from her mouth. Her body trembled, and tears rolled down her cheeks. She didn’t plead, but the defeat in her eyes was unmistakable as I ripped her heart from her
chest.
I looked at the organ; it still remained beating, and it reminded me of the flesh–eater. She slumped forward, and I let go of the organ.
I nodded to Alexander, and then he set her body on fire. The flames turned purple, consuming her until not even her bones were left.
No one was unkillable. Every person could die, and Cynthia was dead.
“I guess this is goodbye?” I said to Daemon.

“I intend on staying a bit, and don’t worry, I won’t go feeding on pack members.”
“Or neighboring pack members.”
“I can’t keep such promises.”
“Daemon.”
“Okay. No neighboring pack members either, but that’s all you’ll be requesting of me.”
