"None of this is for you." Samuel responded to Ella's budding eyes as she savoured the sight of the food and licked her lips. Samuel rang the lunch bell beside the bed and asked the nurse to bring in Ella's lunch.
"I don't want to eat a sick meal, it's really awful..." Ella protested softly but in vain. She was so depressed.
Samuel gave her a charming smile to soothe her. It worked so well that Ella immediately accepted it without any complaint. Although they had been married for a long time, Samuel seldom showed such a charming smile.
Therefore, Ella's heart was captured by him very easily.
"You will recover faster if you eat the sick meal now, and then you will be able to enjoy the delicious meal sooner, okay?" How could she eat something delicious before the wound had properly healed and her body, fully recovered?
What a lovely little fool she was!
Ella nodded and agreed because what Samuel had said, sounded reasonable, "Well, then, I'll have the sick meal."
"Good girl! Darling, when you leave the hospital, I will take you out for a delicious meal." He caressed her long silky hair, lovingly.
This affectionate gesture delighted Melody. As she was eating, she swallowed the green vegetables in her mouth and then began to joke, "Come on, you two love-birds."
Her voice made Ella realise that her grandmother was still in the ward. She immediately shied away from Samuel's touch, picked her phone and pretended to look at it.
"My dear grandmother, couldn't you have pretended not to see us?" Samuel asked, a playful undertone to his voice. He adjusted Ella's bed to the right height and went to the bathroom.
"Even if I pretend, it's hard for me not to hear. You two are so sweet and you keep calling her 'Darling' and 'Sweetheart'." Melody didn't realise that "Sweetheart" was her own addition as she innocently watched Samuel washing towels in the bathroom.
Her words made Ella almost choke with her own saliva, "Grandma, you must be mistaken. Samuel never called me 'Sweetheart'!"
'Who knew which other woman he had referred to with those endearing words?' Ella thought angrily.
Samuel came over with the wet towel and saw Ella roll her eyes at him. He blinked doubtfully, wondering what he had done to make her unhappy.
Oh! He had a sudden inspiration and seemed to know why. Was she blaming him for not calling her 'Sweetheart'?
On reflection, Samuel took Ella's phone and put it aside, "My sweetheart, come here and clean your hands."
Ella was speechless.
Melody gave Samuel a thumbs up and would have laughed if she hadn't been eating.
Ella blushed and twisted Samuel's arm, lowering her voice, "How could you call me 'Sweetheart' when grandma is here?"
"Grandma, do you mind if I call my wife, sweetheart?" Samuel turned around and asked Melody.
Ella was speechless and let him wipe her hands.
Melody put down her chopsticks and shook her hands, "Of course not. You can pretend I'm not here and be as sweet as you want."
Melody didn't mind, of course. She wished their inseparable love would last forever.
When Samuel was about to speak, Ella stopped him and warned him quietly, "Don't be so shameless, Samuel!"
Samuel took back the towel and gave her a playful look, "I have been shameless for a long time, and you should know that by now. Sweetheart."
Samuel ducked into the bathroom before Ella's hand could hit him.
A few minutes later, a nurse brought Ella's meal.
