[Ping! Task 2/3 completed. Unlocking the third and last task for the trial mode.]
In great surprise, Damien pushed his body up. Next to him was his unconscious body. Like the previous day, he'd passed the night here on top of the tree, on the watchtower.
HOW'S THAT POSSIBLE?! I ONLY GAVE CLAIRE FIRE. I DID THAT BECAUSE SHE -- WHY SHOULD I EVEN EXPLAIN THAT.
WAIT...
He threw his face to the side. An effort to stimulate his thoughts.
IT ONLY MEANS ONE THING. DID SHE SHARE THE FIRE WITH THE REST? AT WHAT COST? IF SHE DID, I KNOW CLAIRE, SHE WOULDN'T DO IT FOR FREE.
It was exhilarating that when he decided to take a risk because of the emotional hurdle he jumped past yesterday, he didn't know that the system could be so considerate.
Yesterday, he didn't care whether or not the system counted what he did as relevant to the task. He'd acted based on his feelings. He'd thought that he would go back and give the rest of the girls fire. But things seemed to take a strange route, like it always did on the island.
He took a deep breath when he recalled that today would be the last day of the trial mode. He was nervous about the last task. He didn't quite know what it would be. Also, why was the system taking time to tell him what it was.
It felt like the system was trying to kill him with anxiety. He knew that that was a funny thought, yet he couldn't help but nurse it.
He stood up and walked forward to lean on what looked like a railing made from woods. He looked from the watchtower. His eyes widened suddenly,
"A ship! What the fuck!"
He wanted to jump off at once and run towards the sea. If he could steal a ship, it would make the job easier to leave the island. He never forgot that one day he would have to leave the island. With the girls. Plus the bars and statues of gold too.
"What a waste!"
He was knocked back to reality. He could only wish. He was in the trial mode. Even though he wanted so much to go, he couldn't. If he did, he would be making a big fool of himself. How was he supposed to get the attention of the people who were in the ship?
OH, THIS IS ANOTHER WAY.
He thought of it.
IF I COULD GO TO THEM, LUCKY ENOUGH TO USE THE SURFBOARD, I COULD STEAL SO MANY THINGS. LIKE CLOTHES AND STUFF. TO THEM, IT WOULD SEEM LIKE A GHOST FROM THE ISLAND CAME TO HAUNT THEM.
BUT WHAT IF THEY JUMP INTO THE WATER AND SWIM ASHORE? THAT WOULD CAUSE MORE TROUBLE FOR ME AND THE GIRLS. AND THE CANNIBALS TOO.
PLUS, I CAN'T POSSIBLE GET TO THE SEASHORE ON TIME. THE SHIP WOULD HAD ZOOMED PAST THE ISLAND.
WHATEVER. LIKE I CARE.
He tried not to be bothered, even though he knew that he was already bothered.
[Ping! Task 3/3 of the trial mode. Choose a predator and kill it before the expiration of today.]
"I knew it. It would be a tough one."
He seemed prepared for the task.
"Lugal, did you call?"
The Cannibal called at him.
I GUESS I HAVE TO FIND A NAME FOR THESE FOOLS, SO THEY CAN KNOW WHEN THEY ARE BEEN CALLED.
His eyes scurried through his sockets.
YES, A NAME! ISN'T THAT PART OF CIVILIZATION?! WOW, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT BEFORE NOW?
He climbed down the tree.
"Keep a close watch. Any one who comes close to the tree, kill him or her!"
"Even your queens?"
"You fool, they are not anyone."
He scolded then walked off. He could hear the Cannibal drop on his knees behind him.
He halted for a moment, turning to the Cannibal who was on his knees, his face down to the earth as though Damien was standing before him.
IS THIS REALLY WHAT IF FEELS LIKE SERVING GOD? PEOPLE CAN'T SEE HIM BUT STAY LOYAL BECAUSE THEY CAN FEEL HIS MAGNANIMITY?
He clicked his tongue.
AM I MAKING ANY SENSE?!
He dumped the thought and walked away. He had walked for a while before he arrived at the waterfall.
"I should had told that fool to skin the leopard he killed yesterday. I could use its flesh as a mink."
