"Now that I have stacked away as many gold as possible, it's time to go rid that island of the predators. Let's see what else we could earn."
He was standing under a big tree at an unmarked territory. The space looked familiar, he was trying to remember what that place was.
"Oh, I'm few minutes away from the castle. Should I visit it and see how the girls are doing?"
He wasn't sure if that was necessary. For all he could tell, he was getting distracted again. He knew he had to get whatever he had in mind done quickly to be able to leave the island on time.
"It won't take me forever to get there."
He zoomed at once towards the castle. When he got close enough to the fence, he activated the invisible gait and entered into the compound.
He had spent the few moments of the superpower without focus. He couldn't point at something sane which he did. He didn't want to think about it. There was no point getting worried about things like that.
He strode into the castle and found the first batch of the girls seated as usual in the living room.
"This is nuts! Don't they have anything to do? Can't they think of something? Why do they always have to sit here all day long? Everytime I come here, they are always seated... either staring blankly at one another or chatting or fighting!"
He didn't know whether to get annoyed or confused. He didn't want to dwell on it for long.
"Claire, Ayisha and Laurette are not here."
He had observed closely before making that comment.
"It's strange that Laurette could move away from her twin sister. I thought they would stick together."
He shrugged.
"What was I thinking? Of course they would have contrasting interests."
A sudden realization hit him.
"Laurette. I don't quite know her deal. I'm not sure what stuff she is made of. She seemed quite aloof yet everywhere. It's quite difficult to figure out the moves of people like that. People who waver."
Point in time, something more disturbing dawned on him.
"Evelyn! Where is she? She's not with this group. Could she be in he cave with Der? Does she not want to be a part of the girls anymore?"
The memory of what they shared zoomed past his mind and his face became a mess of wild smile. His tough face easily folded into a smile at such random thoughts.
"Let me go check with the other group. If I can't find her there, then it means that ---"
He left the words incomplete. He probably had hard time drawing a closure on the link of thought.
He turned and was about to leave when one of the girls seated severed the tiring silence,
"When are we leaving? There's nothing particular we do here. We go from eating, to bathing, then talking, then sleeping... then we repeat the same circle. Beyond that, we don't do any other thing."
Damien looked, it was Mira. He picked a sudden interest in the argument. He would leave after he'd had enough of the information. Obviously.
Mira continued,
"If we are not going with the other group to search for Damien's --- either corpse or whereabouts... shouldn't we be thinking of leaving? Or do we keep living this way? With no hope?"
SO, SHE ALSO ACCEPTS THAT I AM DEAD?
Damien's eyes squinted at Mira. He had conflicted thoughts about her. But then he thought of it from a reasonable point of view. If he was in their shoes, he would had believed the same thing. After all, he didn't even tell them that he had a sort of system. All the girls could make were hypotheses.
"Thinking would not help. We should act. Thinking about leaving the island... everyone does that. We should work towards that course."
Damien's eyes sought for who had spoken. Lisa.
"That crazy loser! How could he bring us to leave us! I would skin him to death if he was alive."
Jada gritted her teeth, biting her words angrily.
"Don't you think that is too much? Don't you think it's a bad idea to speak bad about the dead?"
Damien's jaws dropped at those words of Lisa.
"The dead? For real? You are referring to me as a dead person? WAAH... this is killing me."
He grunted in displeasure, ready to go hit her, but then remembered that he was invisible.
"Should I reveal myself to them right now!!! I should enjoy the shock in their faces when they see that I'm not dead. What the fuck! I don't care, I'm doing that right away."
He flipped the system out and was going to click on the feature when Mira called,
"What if he is standing there? Would you had said that?"
Damien hesitated. He looked up. It was obvious that Mira was scolding Jada. Jada scoffed, rolling her eyes, then sneered.
"Whatever. I don't give two fucks about whether or not he is here, all that matters is that we should leave this shithole!!! Imagine him pretending to have the power to do everything... only for what? To end up dead?!!"
She cackled. Damien felt torn hearing those.
"That bastard! We were stronger and more resilient than him after all. The fool would boss us around as though he was God. Look at his end. I don't even regret that he died. Why should I? After all, this is what we were to him before we crash-landed on this island. Majority of you are just pretending. Especially that dumb Claire!!!"
Damien had a smile in his face. He was no longer pissed with her. But then he had gotten enough of her. He didn't want to stay there anymore. If he did, he might be forced to do what he didn't plan.
He slowly turned and walked out of the castle, living the girl to continue bickering.
"Jada... how interesting. At least I get to know what your true color is. I always knew that some of you are doing a vainshow. Keeping up a charade. I'm glad that y'all are beginning to surface."
Suddenly he heard some activities coming from up ahead of him. He looked, there were four girls gathered at the front of the safehouse.
"Evelyn."
He zoomed to them at once. He felt really glad to see her. But what is the point of gladness when you can't show it?!
His mood switched when he saw the long faces of the rest; Claire and Laurette. Ayisha on the other hand was good at masking her own emotions with an indifferent or a neutral gaze.
He still didn't know what to think of Ayisha. Whether to take her at face value or wait and watch what she would turn into. He had once had that discussion with his inner man, but his recent experience with Jada revived the odd urge.
