The dining table was filled with sashimi, all kinds.
There was also a plate of oranges, sliced evenly.
Jordan said, "I called in sick for you. You don't have to go to work today."
"Oh."
I sat down, then suddenly jumped up.
"You called in for me?"
"Yes."
"You talked to my boss?"
"What's wrong?"
"He'll misunderstand!"
"What's between us is real. What's there to misunderstand?"

I was speechless.
"I asked your boss. You didn't take a programming job to make it easier to work side gigs?"
"Yeah, programming pays well, but there's always overtime. I work several jobs, and I make more each month than I would in a programming job."
"Starting next month, go back to programming. You can quit all your side gigs."
"No," I declined. "I haven't written code in a long time. I'm rusty."
"It's okay. I'll teach you again."
He focused on peeling the shrimp, dipping it in sauce, and placing it in my bowl.
Just like before.
He always carefully peeled every shrimp for me.
