Chapter 18
***
Two huge men were guarding that door. When I approached them, I spoke.
"I need to go to the washroom." I hoped they heard English. br They looked at each other and exchanged tough words. Then one turned to me.
"Who are you?" his English, heavily accented.
"Anabelle Bulu. One of the richest heirs in Africa."
They looked at each other before moving away from the door.
"Seventh door after the living room."
"Okay."
They opened the door and I went in. I was nervous. No lie.
*** br I walked into a living room. An expensive one. The furniture looked rich and expensive. There were pictures and paintings of Rudolfo everywhere. He seemed to be an ex-Lieutenant, General. He had three guns hanging above the chimney. There was a fire lighting the vast room. Red curtains hung everywhere. Even the carpet was red. It was creepy.
"Where the hell is it?" I thought to myself. I checked to see if the main door was well closed. I looked at the huge staircase in front of me. I took my heels off to make no noise. I then hid them behind a chair before carefully and silently making my way up the staircase. I needed to be fast. Could not risk being caught. br At the top of the staircase was a hallway with many doors.
'Which one to check now?'
"Oh no...which one now?"
I could smell danger all around me. I opened the purse I was given in that box. I was looking for something that could help me. In it were a knife and an office pen. On the pen was written "Anes". I wondered what it meant and so I clicked the pen. To my surprise, something as sharp as a needle came out of it and got stuck in the wall.
"Oh wow," I whispered to myself. Suddenly, I heard footsteps coming up the staircase. I thought of the fact that the guards might have noticed my delay and were coming to look for me. I quickly tiptoed to the first door and entered it. I got into a game room. There was a poker table and a Billiard table too. My heart was beating faster than usual. br I put my ear against the door to listen. I heard them pass by. They were more than two. I was so scared. What would happen to me if I got caught? I began to regret it.
BAM!!!!
The door flung open, hitting my head so hard that I flew across the room before landing hard on the floor. I held my head in great pain. My vision got blurry and I was unable to move. Completely paralyzed. I managed to look towards the door and saw armed men. They knew I'd been in that room hiding. br I noticed a figure similar to Rudolf. He was the one! He laughed out loud.
"An American spy. The most pathetic, I've come across," he stated in his heavy accent before telling the men something in Russian. They began to approach me. I tried to move but could not. My vision got even more blurred and soon, everything went blank! I passed out.
