Chapter 56
All of a sudden, someone with a long, slender leg stepped out of the car. Gisele merely glanced at the scene, then quickly turned around and tried to dive into the bushes.
A man’s voice suddenly called out, “Gigi!”
Gisele stiffly turned around and let out a sigh of relief when she realized that it wasn’t Dorian.
She forced a smile on her pale face as she looked at Bernard’s towering physique. “Oh, it’s you, Mr.
Murray.”
Bernard nodded in assent as he smiled gently and said, “We just left the police station. My car conked
out, so I took Dorian’s car instead.”
Gisele’s nervousness flared up again. Did that mean Dorian was also in the car?
When he noticed Gisele’s expression, Bernard calmly explained, “You don’t have to be so nervous. Doge went to accompany his sweetheart. Where are you going? Do you need a lift?”
Gisele broke out in a cold sweat. She was unsure whether she should reject the offer.
However, there wasn’t a single cab nearby, and the situation on Angie’s end was very pressing.
Bernard chuckled softly and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell Doge about it. You’re someone I look up to, so I’m really happy to be able to help you.”
Gisele thought about it for a moment and then said firmly. “Thank you for your help then!”
Once they were in the car, Gisele gave Bernard the address, and they immediately drove to Angie’s
apartment. Besides that, Bernard also filled her in on the police’s findings.
“It was determined that Mr. Doug’s death has nothing to do with you. It was done by a caretaker who was
caring for him. She wanted to be his significant other, so she took this drastic measure.”
Gisele fell silent when she heard that.
Did that excuse even make any sense?
When he noticed her lack of response, Bernard continued, “Michael accidentally found out about the caretaker’s plan and took a liking to you, which eventually led to that incident.
“Both he and the caretaker were turned down by their respective love interests after all. Oh, that reminds
Gisele, who had been silent all that time, turned to look at Bernard’s dimly lit side profile and tentatively asked, “You mean, she has something to do with this incident?”
“The caretaker bought that medicine from Sierra. McMillan Group owns a pharmaceutical company, and Sierra occasionally goes there to perform free consultations.”
Bernard frowned as he said that, finding it quite incredulous. “She’s such a pampered young lady. It’s hard
to believe that she would provide free consultations for people in need.”
Gisele glanced at the pitch–black night outside and chuckled softly.
It was truly incredulous. After all, as long as Sierra asked him, Dorian would have everything sorted out for her. Therefore, even if she didn’t do anything, she could still have a good reputation.
Gisele was used to such things by now.
Bernard saw that she was still silent, so he changed the topic. “Filming for the show may be postponed due to Mr. Doug’s incident. I will notify you once we’re back on track. Okay?”
