Chapter 8

Clare’s voice came from outside.

“Anika, are you awake? I made your favorite breakfast.

Time to get up and have breakfast.”

Clare’s words slowly brought Anika back to her senses.

Anika remembered leaving Rafter Villa,going to the hospital, and then coming here to visit Clare.

Anika knocked her head with her fist,feeling a bit anxious. When did her memory become so bad?

As she tried to get out of bed,she spotted a large bloodstain on the bedsheet.

Anika touched her right ear and felt something sticky.

She spread her hand and saw it covered in blood…

Her hearing aid was stained red too….

Panicked, Anika quickly used a tissue to clean her ear and then hurriedly took the bedsheet out.

When Clare saw Anika washing the bedsheet on the balcony,Clare was puzzled.

“What happened? Clare asked,

“I got my period and accidentally stained the bedsheet,”

Anika explained with a smile.

After washing up,Anika had breakfast with Clare, enjoying a moment of peace.

Clare’s voice sometimes sounded clear,and sometimes muffled.

Anika was so afraid that she would never hear this voice again.

She was also worried about how Clare would feel when Clare found out about it.

After spending half the day there, Anika secretly left some of her savings on the bedside table and then bid farewell to Clare.

When Anika left, Clare went to the train station with her.

Clare didn’t turn around until Anika left.

On her way back home, Clare thought of how skinny Anika was and couldn’t help but call the internal line

“She’s not as strong as she appears to be. When she was just born,her mother disliked her for hearing

impairment and had her live with me.

“She was not brought back to the Carey’s place until she was of school age…At Carey’s place,except for her father,everyone treated her like crap. In her childhood, Anika had secretly called me countless times,crying and saying she didn’t want to be Miss Carey and that she wanted to come back to live with me and be my

daughter…

“You and Mr.Carey are the most important people to her in Oasisville.Be good to Anika,please. She has suffered so much in her life.

Listening to Clare’s choked words, Joshua suddenly felt very upset.

“What now?Yesterday, she tried to insult me with money.

but it didn’t work So,she’s trying to play the sympathy card now?

Joshua’s voice was cold.“Why would I care how much Anika has suffered?!!

‘She deserved it!”

Joshua hung up the phone without waiting for Clare’s response

In the past,Anika had told Clar over and over again how wonderful Joshua was.

But now,Clare finally realized that Joshua was not good at all. He was a terrible man. He didn’t deserve

Anika was on the train back to Oasisville

Anika stared at the message and was lost in thought for a moment before replying. “Okay

Joshua found that word upsetting.

Good Let’s see how long you can pretend.”

Joshua was in no mood for work.

Upon hearing poured Joshua a glass of wine.
