Chapter 318
It took a long while before Victoria managed to speak. “He didn’t go?”
Henry shook his head solemnly. “No.”
Victoria stared at the ground in silence. He owes that woman. If he doesn’t go, it’ll put
him in jeopardy. Still, it wouldn’t change anything even if he did go.

“A ton of reporters were there, thinking they could witness the engagement of the
century only to report a missing groom. Claudia was a mess. She was alone during the
engagement, and it was both embarrassing for her and her family. However, no
reporters managed to get any pictures. Even if they did, the pictures were deleted
immediately.”
Victoria got a little curious at that point. “Maybe it’s a fluke. Maybe there was no
engagement party.”
She couldn’t believe Alaric didn’t attend the ceremony. Previously, the fact he staged a
fake wedding with her and refused to have children with her was all because he loved
Claudia. So, there’s no way Claudia would have to force his hand. Doubly impossible
that she failed too.

“That was what everyone guessed, but my reporter friend said that the decoration was
already up and it was gorgeous. They didn’t post the pictures though, since it was
banned. Anyone who did that would get fired, but someone got some photos and
posted them online. Went viral for a bit before they were taken down.”
“Some? More than one?”
“Yep.” Henry grinned. “Even I saw it. He took the photo of a disappointed Claudia. She
was even holding a bouquet. Heck, she even looked like an abandoned kitten. What a
shame.”
“You saw the picture?” Victoria narrowed her eyes. She didn’t believe that this whole
thing was true at first, but now that Henry said he had seen the picture, it changed
things. So, he didn’t attend the ceremony.
“I don’t really understand why you’d say Mr. Cadogan has someone he loves. I’ve never
seen him dating anyone. Maybe he just wants to help you raise your kids. Or maybe…”
Henry stopped for a moment and stole a glance at her. Then, he asked, “Why did you
get divorced in the first place, boss? Maybe it was a misunderstanding?”
Misunderstanding? Victoria sneered. There is no misunderstanding. He was the one
who started the emotional abuse, and… For some reason, Victoria got frustrated.
Noticing Henry trying to say something, she interrupted, “Enough. I know full well there

are no misunderstandings.” It’s too complex to be explained away by
misunderstandings.
Henry realized Victoria must have been reminded of something bad, so he scratched
his nose sheepishly. “I’ll stop, but call me if you need anything. I’ll be going now.”

“Yeah, sure.” Once Henry was gone, Victoria sat down in her seat, leaned into it, and
closed her eyes. She looked exhausted. So what if he was absent from the ceremony?
He went to the auction with her. They looked like a perfect couple. They might not be a
couple back then, but there’s no way they’re not dating now. If he tries to take my kids,
I’ll fight him.
Victoria got a message from Silent Night right before she could clock out. ‘Didn’t have
much work today, so I picked the kids up. I’m going to take them to my place, so come
over after you’re done with work.’
Victoria shot up, looking in disbelief, but then she snapped out of it and answered, ‘I
won’t let you.‘
‘What do you mean?‘

‘I won’t let you take them to your place. I’d like you to respect my decision, please.”
After some time, Silent Night texted back, ‘They’re also my children, Victoria‘
‘Don’t give me that. I raised them, and I know who their father is. It’s not you.‘
‘Really? Then you won’t mind me doing a paternity test, will you?‘
‘Just don’t take the kids. Please.‘

The message wasn’t replied to for a long, long time, and Victoria frowned. Did he listen
to me? Did he do as I told him to? Victoria didn’t think so. Something was off, since
Alaric wasn’t someone who would give up that easily. She was still worried. There were
fifteen minutes left until clock–out time, but she didn’t care. Victoria packed her things
