Chapter 390

The trip had been smooth in the beginning but soon became steep and winding toward
the end. Victoria could stand it at first, but after ten minutes she became dizzy. Nathan
leaned into her embrace, clearly feeling ill as well.
Even though she didn’t feel well, she cared for Nathan and helped rub his temple while
asking gently, “Do you feel better?”
However, Nathan felt too sick to reply, so she told the driver, “Can you slow down a
little? My son feels sick.”
Since they were in a rush, the car didn’t slow down that much even though the road
was mountainous. They had wasted too much time after all, and Ethan was worried
about their plans after that. However, he then turned to see the boy curled up in
Victoria’s embrace while she looked pale as well though she tried to control it. Hel
couldn’t bear it and so told the driver to slow down.
When the car had slowed and become more stable, the situation improved slightly. She
suppressed her feeling of nausea as she held Nathan in her arms, but then she began
to
worry about Nicole who was away from them. The girl had to be feeling sick during
the ride, plus she had cried as she left. Victoria was worried sick about her daughter. Is
she still scared? Is she still crying fiercely? Would she start the hiccups?

The more Victoria thought about it, the more vexed she felt. She eventually closed her
eyes, wishing only for the trip to end quickly.
It was some time before the car eventually stopped in front of a bungalow located in
the mountains. The car door had just opened when she saw another car parked at the
main entrance of the bungalow which was wide open. Countless bodyguards stood on
both sides of the entrance, making the place look well–secured. However, that meant
that it would be extremely difficult for her to escape.
“Miss Selwyn, we’re here.”
Victoria held Nathan as she alighted from the car and asked immediately, “Where’s
Nicole?”
Ethan respectfully replied, “Miss Nicole is with Mr. Morison and so wouldn’t be
ill–treated. She may be inside the bungalow already so let’s join them, Miss Selwyn.”
She really wanted to turn him down, but Nicole was inside the bungalow and Victoria
wondered how badly she might have suffered during the journey. So, she had no choice
but to follow him into the bungalow. As she walked, she observed the environment
around her. Tall gates surrounded the bungalow and the only exit was guarded by
countless bodyguards.

Ethan’s voice suddenly came from the front. “Miss Selwyn, if you truly don’t fancy Mr.
Morison, my suggestion is to make him become tired of you before leaving. That’s the
best approach.”
There was no one else around and he was leading the way.
Victoria became puzzled by that. “Become tired of me? And how do I do that?”

Ethan’s footsteps paused before slowing down. “I’ve been at his side for many years.
He’s the type to desire something the more he’s denied it. The reason he’s locked you in
here is because he has never won you over before.”
She was speechless. What kind of dumb statement was that? Did she have to let Bane.
win her over just so she could safely leave him?
Victoria replied sternly at once, “Your suggestion is useless. I won’t accept it.”
He could guess what she had thought by her instant cold expression. “Miss Selwyn,
don’t misunderstand. When I said win you over, I didn’t mean whatever you were
thinking.”
She looked down instinctively at Nathan. It felt weird to be discussing something like
this in front of a child.

“What I meant was to make him feel as if he has won you over, which means making
him happy.”

“What do you mean?” Ethan’s words puzzled her even more.
“Do you know what Mr. Morison’s family is like, Miss Selwyn?”
Victoria frowned since she had heard others talk about it. They all said how Bane’s
father had been a jerk who ignored his children and wife to indulge in alcohol and
parties before ending up being embroiled in a romantic scandal with a young girl. Many
criticized the man, but some defended him as well.
“Rich men are all the same. They already have fame and status and are just chasing
something new outside of their family. They will go home when they are tired of it and
won’t cause anything serious.”
Bane had described all men as completely useless, but Victoria knew that not all men
were like Bane’s father. For example, her father had always remained single after her
mother’s death. Victoria wasn’t the only reason he hadn’t remarried; besides that, he still
loved her mother deeply. If he could maintain his dignity and morals when his beloved.
was no longer with him, why couldn’t other men do the same? They merely didn’t want
to do so.

She had wanted to comfort Bane, but he kept talking about Alaric and Claudia

whenever they saw each other. She didn’t want to hear about them, so she eventually
stopped consoling Bane. Sometime after that, she heard that his parents wanted to get
divorced since his father’s mistress had visited them while heavily pregnant in a bid to
become his actual wife. It had caused a massive uproar back then.
The citizens of Gandra kept talking about the family, and Bane who had still been in
school became the most obvious target for gossip. She had heard people discuss him
in private during that period too.
