Chapter 458
Bane scoffed coldly. “Are you telling me what to do?”
“It’s just a suggestion.”

“Oh, Mr. Hudson…” Bane narrowed his eyes, his cold gaze boring into Ethan. Though his
tone was light, there was a layer of frost beneath it, and there was no trace of his usual
gentleness. “Did you pretend to be a good person so much that you deluded yourself
into thinking you actually are one?”
“I’m not sure if I’m a good person or not, but the way you’re forcing someone to stay by
your side isn’t exactly the most morally correct thing to do, Mr. Morison,” Ethan
protested.
The corners of Bane’s lips slowly curled upward. “How righteous of you to say that, Mr.
Hudson. Didn’t you bring her to me because of your parents?”
His question immediately rendered Ethan at a loss for words.
A moment later, he could only agree, “Yes, I’m not as just as I sound, but you’re so much
more pathetic than me, Mr. Morison.”
At that, Ethan turned around and left, leaving Bane standing in place. As he watched Ethan’s retreating figure, a thought popped up in his mind, causing his gaze to slowly

darken.
Leon was standing right next to him, and he suddenly recalled a thought at the sight,
asking, “Mr. Morison, since Miss Selwyn is already here, then that person…”
Although he was aware of whom Leon was referring to, Bane was not in the mood to
worry about this matter. Hence, after shooting him a warning look, he headed back into
the ward.
Alaric. He was indeed unable to shake off this huge problem from his side. At first, he
planned to wait for Victoria to come to him before taking action, but out of all possible
circumstances, there was not a single instance where he considered that Victoria
would lose her memory. If she had forgotten everything, including Alaric, wouldn’t it
mean that he would no longer have to make his move?
Bane slowly lowered himself onto Victoria’s bed, his gaze sweeping across her face. “If
you’re willing to listen to me obediently after you wake up and stay by my side, then I
might be able to consider… letting him go.”
Alas, at this moment, Victoria couldn’t hear a single word he said.
Victoria only began to stir awake when the clock struck noon. As her memories after
she regained consciousness were still intact, she was not startled by the familiar sight
before her when she woke up, and only felt a pang of pain in the back of her neck.
Hence, she subconsciously reached for the back of her neck.

As a gentle voice sounded by her right, Victoria turned toward its source and looked at
him. “It’s you…”
Although she did not recognize him, he had always stayed by her side. Because of this,
she now remembered him.
Bane leaned down and carefully helped her up. “What’s wrong? Do you feel
uncomfortable anywhere?”
For some reason, Victoria felt her body subconsciously resist his touch whenever he
placed his hands on her. However, she didn’t have the strength to struggle at all, so she
could only allow him to help her up. Then, she watched as he placed a pillow behind
her back so that she could sit more comfortably.
Once she was properly seated, Victoria said, “My neck hurts a little.”
At her words, Bane’s hands froze in the midst of his movement before he rubbed his
neck in embarrassment, saying a little guiltily, “Do you remember what happened before
you fainted?”
Victoria froze. “What happened?”
Seeing her lost expression, Bane immediately explained, “You suddenly fainted, and I

brought you in here.”
“Oh,” Victoria replied, lowering her gaze.

As he watched her behavior and reaction, Bane began to grow worried that she would
try to regain her memory again and fail, so he spoke out to interrupt her train of
thought. “Other than your neck, does your body hurt anywhere else?”
Hearing that, Victoria went along with his question and seriously assessed her body
before shaking her head. “No.”
And so, Bane rubbed his nose even more guiltily.
Back then, the situation had been urgent, and he was focused on stopping her from
recalling her memories, so he hadn’t considered the fact that she might have some.
lingering side effects after he hit her. Now that she was telling him that her neck hurt,
he felt his heart ache with worry.
“How about I give you a massage?”
As he spoke, he began to lean toward her, reaching out to place his hands on her neck.
As he had helped Victoria up previously, she hadn’t had any strength in her body, but
she now had the energy to struggle as she was sitting up. Hence, as his hands
gradually approached her, she reflexively dodged away, avoiding his touch.

At her avoidance, Bane froze before looking at her.
For some reason, his straightforward gaze caused her to reflexively avert her eyes as
she explained hesitantly, “I–It’s fine. I can do it myself.”
At that, she reached out and gently rubbed the parts of her body where she felt sore.
After observing her for a moment, Bane did not say anything else. When he returned to
his seat, the two fell into a long silence before he finally said, “Are you hungry? Do you
want to eat anything?”
Logically speaking, she hadn’t eaten since her plane ride yesterday, so she should be
starving. As her wound was on her head and not anywhere else, there were most likely
no foods that she had to avoid either.
However, Victoria unexpectedly shook her head. “Thank you for your concern, but I’m
not hungry.”
“Not hungry?” Bane narrowed his eyes. “Do you know how long it’s been since you last
ate?”
“Really?” Victoria was slightly dazed by his question, and she reached out to clutch her
