Chapter 470
Victoria assumed that if it was only a brief meeting, Bane would agree, but she later
began to consider the possibility that he would not. Then, she realized that this man
might have thought of the same thing that she and Ethan had considered.
Nonetheless, she wanted to give it a shot because, whether she had lost her memory or
not, she knew she had come here voluntarily. Although she had forgotten her past, she
was confident in her instincts and character, knowing that her choice was probably the
result of much thought.
“Victoria, I already told you that meeting him is impossible,” he said with a slight smile
as he looked at her with gentle eyes. “Apart from that, I can agree to anything else you
ask for, so go ahead and tell me.”
After hearing this, she unintentionally frowned. “Are you trying to make things difficult
for me? I have only this one request.”
Surprisingly, Bane countered, “Are you sure?”
Victoria was stunned upon hearing this.
“What about after meeting him? Don’t you want to treat his injuries? Don’t you want me
to return him to where he came from?” While saying this, his hand gently touched her
wrist, but in the next instant, he tightly grasped it. “What if I agree to only one request?”
However, she gazed at him blankly.
“Do you want to meet him, or do you want me to send him back for treatment?” he
asked.
After pondering for a moment, she asked, “Is this also something we previously agreed
on?”
“No,” Bane replied candidly. Then, he stated, “It doesn’t need to be agreed upon
beforehand; it’s the choice I’m giving you now.”
After that, Victoria silently stared at him for a while before pulling her wrist out of his
grasp. Then, she turned her back to him.
He was momentarily taken aback by her conduct and could only respond, “Do you need
time to think? It’s okay; we have plenty of time. Anyway, I’m not in a hurry. When you
have an answer, let me know.”
Nonetheless, she maintained her silence. He’s not in a rush, but the person on the
sickbed is. So, for the past few days, during which I have lost my memory, that man
may not have received any treatment, which has already been delayed for several days.
If I don’t make a decision soon…
“Well, get some rest. I’ll come back later to check on you,” Bane said as he stood up and
walked away.
As Victoria watched his departing figure, she called out just as he was about to close
the door. “Wait. Since I can’t meet him, can I at least see his condition?” She bit her lip
and continued, “Otherwise, how do I know if he’s safe? Maybe you’re trying to deceive
me.”
After hearing this, he stood by the door and glanced at her. “Don’t you trust Ethan?
Since you’re here now, I’ll have him accompany you and exclusively handle your affairs.
You can count on him to do whatever you need, such as visit the person you want to
see. When he returns, he’ll tell you about that person’s condition.”
Hearing this, she finally comprehended why he denied her request. This means he has
considered the same things that Ethan and I have. He fears I will regain my memories,
so he prevents me from meeting that person. It’s extremely unpleasant to be
threatened and restrained in this way. I feel I’ve been holding my breath for a long time
and cannot breathe normally, but I have no other option now. After hesitating for a
while, she could only agree. “Fine.”
In response, Bane tightened his grip on the doorknob and turned his head to look at her
incredulously. “You agree?”
Victoria smiled sarcastically and replied, “Do I have any other choice?”
On the other hand, he seemed oblivious to the sarcasm in her eyes. He only knew she
was willing to stay and didn’t have any of her previous memories, so his chances were
much better now. Then, he showed a genuine smile. “I’ll have food sent over. Are you
hungry?”
“I don’t want to eat. Have Ethan come and see me.” Then, having made her point, she
abruptly turned her back on him to show that she was done talking.
Even from this distance, he could sense her extreme displeasure. In the meantime, he
was overcome with joy, so even if she scolded or hit him, he would still be ecstatic.
Thinking about this, Bane curled up the corners of his lips. “Sure, I’ll have him come and
see you.”
Soon, the door closed, and the room returned to silence.
Remembering the joy in his voice as he left, Victoria felt a heavy weight in her chest.
She couldn’t see the other person, and he didn’t allow her to see his condition. Hence,
she could only rely on Ethan’s help. She knew deep down that she could trust him, so
she prepared herself to ask, upon his arrival, if there was any way for her to see that
person.
On the other hand, Ethan showed up quickly, probably because Bane was relieved she
had decided to stay. A few minutes after Bane left, she heard a knock at the door.
“Miss Selwyn.” Ethan’s voice could be heard outside the door.
Then, Victoria quickly got up to open the door and let him in. As soon as he entered,
she briefly described what had happened earlier.
“I understand.” His expression became serious, and he commented, “Whatever we can
think of, Mr. Morison must have already thought of it too.”
“Hm.” She nodded and asked, “Is there any way I can see him?”
After hearing this, he pursed his lips and fell into deep thought. A way? I still didn’t know
where Mr. Morison took Mr. Cadogan. Even more challenging would be tracking down
