Chapter 169 There’s No Regret

Elijah held her body in a vice–like grip, his voice low and steady. “No. There is no such thing as regret with me.”

Eleanor looked up, her eyes meeting his. For a moment, the air felt thick, as if time itself had stopped. His gaze was so dark, his face unnervingly pale.

She opened her mouth, about to ask something, but before she could speak, her phone rang.

It was her ride.

She glanced at the screen, but Elijah didn’t stop her.

“Miss, I’m here. Where are you?”

“I’m coming.”

Eleanor stepped back two paces, forcing herself to look away as she prepared to leave. Her shoulders sank under the weight of an unfamiliar coat.

When she turned around, Elijah had already walked back to his car.

The driver’s voice came through the phone. “Miss, I can’t park here too long.”

“I’m coming,” she replied, tugging the coat tighter around her and hurrying toward the car.

After Elijah got into his car, Avery, holding a bag of medicine, climbed in beside him.

He closed his eyes, his tone distant. “No one saw, right?”

Avery nodded. “No one.”

Elijah pressed his fingers to his forehead, his eyelids half–closed. “Follow her.”

Elijah frowned, massaging his temples.

Avery blinked. “Elijah, you’re still following her? Do you want me to stop the car and have Miss Brown come out?”

“If you don’t want to be driven crazy by her mouth, just follow,”

Avery stifled a laugh, but wisely held it back.

Back at her apartment, Eleanor hung Elijah’s coat on a hook.

She sat on the couch, lost in thought, her emotions complicated. Slowly, a plan began to form in her mind. The next day, when she entered the office, she overheard her colleagues talking. Zoey had taken a sick day. It seemed she was hiding away after her miscarriage.

Last night, Zoey had specifically looked up the symptoms of a medical abortion online.

Apparently, it was very painful, with many women writhing in agony in bed. There was also the risk of an incomplete miscarriage, which would require a D&C. The only benefit was that it could be done quietly at home, without anyone knowing.

Eleanor had considered exposing the situation to the paparazzi, but she didn’t have concrete evidence.
