Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 159

Anna’s POV:

On my birthday, I picked at a cupcake with halfhearted interest, trying to ignore how the frosting stuck to my fingers.

The thunder outside matched the timing of my phone’s ring perfectly, like some cosmic joke on my birthday. I didn’t need to check the caller ID.

You’re still at home?Blake’s voice was cold, impatient.

I’m on my way,I replied, keeping my voice steady despite the pain shooting through my chest.

I hung up and grabbed my oversized coat, hoping it would hide how much weight I’d lost. The sunglasses were a last- minute addition to cover my sunken eyes.

Blake was probably pulling strings to fasttrack our divorce papers. Of course he’d be eager to end our marriage as quickly as possible,

Miss, you know the courthouse doesn’t open this early, right?y Uber driver asked as rain pounded against the windshield. The roads were slick with water, making our progress slower than I’d hoped.

1 nodded but didn’t explain. How could I tell him I was rushing to my own divorce? That I was the one who asked for it, but Blake was the one acting like he couldn’t wait to be free?

By the time we reached the Boston family court, the rain had turned into a downpour. The building loomed dark and empty no one else was crazy enough to stand outside in this weather at this hour. I called Blake again.

I’ll be there soon,he said flatly before hanging up.

My hands shook as I ended the call. I pulled out the halfeaten cupcake from my bag.

My dad always said birthdays needed a proper celebration ritual no matter what. Blake knew that. Was this his way of making sure my birthday would be miserable?

I stood there, getting soaked to the bone, but refused to leave. This divorce was my decision. I wouldn’t back down now. By the time the rain finally stopped, my clothes were completely drenched, clinging uncomfortably to my skin.

A black Bentley pulled up, and Blake stepped out looking perfectly dry in his tailored suit. But he wasn’t alone. Scarlett. emerged from the passenger side.

She walked by Blake’s side, waving at me with this fake warmth as she explained, Blake was up all night and just wanted to get here early, but I’m not feeling great and needed to eat something first. He’s just looking out for me, don’t hold it against him.

They spent the entire night together?

This was clearly her way of letting me know she’d already won ver Blake’s parents.

Fine by me. I’d wait and see if Blake could actually marry her while William was still alive.

His grip was firm, our faces suddenly inches apart. His breath was worm against my skin, but his voice remained icecold.
