Chapter 39

Anna’s POV:

Henry immediately stepped in front of me, his posture protective but professional.

“Mr. Wright,” Henry said firmly, “Your behavior is intruding on her personal space.”

Matthew moved forward. “As Anna’s legal representative, I suggest you calm down, Mr. Wright. From what I understand, Anna has already initiated divorce proceedings. If you need to discuss anything, you can do so through the proper channels.”

“Mr. Smith,” Blake stared at Henry, his voice cold as ice, “I never knew you were so skilled at interfering in other people’s marital affairs. My wife and I have issues that don’t require your

concern.”

Blake shifted his gaze to Matthew, looking him up and down with undisguised contempt. “As for you, lawyer, I don’t know how much my wife paid to hire you, but remember–it’s all our shared property.”

“Come here!” Blake commanded, his eyes boring into mine.

Henry didn’t budge from his protective stance. “Mr. Wright, whatever personal problems you have, this approach is inappropriate. Seth wouldn’t allow anyone to treat company personnel this way.”

Blake’s mouth twisted into a smirk. “Henry Smith, you’re just an employee working for Seth Price. Even Seth wouldn’t dare speak to me like this. Who exactly gave you the courage?”

Emily, who’d been quietly fuming beside me, finally burst out, “Wow! CEO Wright truly lives up to his reputation–arrogant and self–important, Now I understand why Anna wants to leave you. Does having money give you the right to speak to people like this?”

I could feel the tension escalating. As much as I appreciated their support, this public confrontation

wasn’t what I wanted. I touched Henry’s arm lightly.

I watched as my three defenders reluctantly left, Emily throwing worried glances over her shoulder as they disappeared around the corner.

Now it was just Blake and me in the damp evening air, the sound of raindrops hitting puddles filling

the silence between us.

“Quite impressive,” Blake finally said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “I had no idea my wife was so good at attracting men.”

I met his gaze without flinching. “There are a lot of things you don’t know.”

“Such as?”

“Like how disappointed you must be to see me walking free from the police station,” I replied coolly.

His expression hardened. “Hardly. No one escapes legal punishment.”

“Are you here to give me a law lesson?”

“Come home with me,” he said, his tone softening slightly. “Apologize to my parents, and the rest-”

I cut him off. “Blake, you really act like you’re desperate for women. Or is it that you love me so desperately? Or is it that Claire can’t properly represent your lover in public?”

His face darkened instantly. “Anna! How can you be so cruel? Claire was worried about you and asked me to come. She never believed you would intentionally hurt her, yet here you are not only harming her but suspecting her behind her back!”

“No wonder you keep going on about divorce,” he continued, his voice rising. “First Seth Price, then Henry Smith, and now this lawyer. I’m curious what kind of love potion you’ve been feeding these

men.”

It oddly calm despite his accusations. “You haven’t seen anything yet. I’m even on good terms ith the head detective. Just wait until I get you all into court.”

“So my wife has such a fascinating private life,” Blake’s voice was bitter. “A famous lawyer, a marine biology authority, and Seth Price as your backer.”

He stepped closer, looming over me. “Do you even remember who you are?”

“Who am I? Definitely not Mrs. Wright,” I challenged. “From the moment I told you I wanted a divorce, I stopped seeing you as my husband. Otherwise, I’d be extremely disappointed.”

I looked directly into his eyes. “Blake, remember this–I meant every word I said.”

Just then, Blake’s phone rang. He pulled it out, visibly tensing when he saw the caller ID. He put it

on speaker, perhaps deliberately.

“Blakey,” Claire’s voice came through, high–pitched and sweet. “This injury of mine is nothing. I’ve explained to Mom that my getting hurt definitely wasn’t Anna’s doing. You absolutely must go to the police station and bring Anna home. Dad and Mom are waiting for you both.”

“Don’t bother trying to persuade me,” I cut in loudly enough for her to hear. “I’m not going back. I’m preparing to divorce your brother.”
