Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 60

I stood frozen in my mother’s office at BlueWave Technologies.

The place was a disaster zone

water glasses, files, a computer mouse, and keyboard scattered across the floor. Mom had clearly

lost it when the news about Blake’s acquisition plans reached her.

Stand right there and don’t move!Mom screamed, her face contorted with rage. Look what you’ve done!

I obeyed, pinned in place by her fury. My tears flowed silently down my cheeks.

She paced frantically around the office, talking to herself more than to me. Maybe I should call Blake? No, that’s not rightShould I contact William first?

MomI tried, my voice barely above a whisper.

How did I end up with such a stubborn daughter?she snapped, turning on me with wild eyes. You’ve managed to create a mountain of problems for us!

I felt strangely detached, watching this woman who had once loved me transform into someone I barely recognized. Here I was, surrounded by family, yet completely alone. The irony made me smile slightly.

That small smile ignited Mom’s rage even further.

You have the nerve to smile?she grabbed my shoulders and shook me hard. What the hell is wrong with you?

Mom,I said quietly, why does everyone think I’m the one who’s wrong? I don’t understand what I did that was so terrible.

She slammed her hand on the desk and got right in my face. You stubborn idiot! I knew I shouldn’t have let you study marine biology! That useless degree has made you stupid!

She was screaming now, spittle flying from her lips. What good is marine biology? It’s just a tool for rich people to show off how environmentally conscious they are! Do you seriously think anyone actually cares about ocean ecosystems? I’ll tell you something in this world, there’s nothing money can’t solve. And if it can’t, it’s because you haven’t thrown enough cash at it!

I remained silent, my gaze steady despite the tears. Looking at her, I wondered if she should just stop running the company altogether. She could take her money and do something else something she was actually good at.

My mom grabbed my arm and tried to drag me toward the door. We’re going to the Wright Estate right now to apologizel

I planted my feet firmly and refused to move. She pulled harder, but wouldn’t budge. Our shadows under the harsh lights looked like a silent pantomime two women with minds made up, unable to change each other.

Finally, she let go of my arm. Fine! Stay here and ruin everything! She stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

Alone, I walked to the floortoceiling windows. It had started raining outside. People below scattered like ar from the downpour.

nning for cover

I pressed my forehead against the cool glass and had a terrible thought: what if I just opened this window and jumped? Would it all

be over then?

If I died, Michael wouldn’t get dragged into this mess. Henry and Emily’s work at EcoMarine Group wouldn’t be shut down. BlueWave Technologies would probably run better under Blake’s control anyway.

Chapter 60

1 pounded my fist against the glass twice. It barely shuddered, but my hand throbbed with pain. The sharp sensation snapped me back to reality.

What the fuck am I doing? I wa’t going to kill myself over a failed marriage.

I wiped my tears and headed for the door. Just as I reached for the handle, my phone rang. My mom’s name flashed on the screen.

AnnaHer voice was barely audible. Annahelp me

My blood turned to ice. Mom? Mom, what happened?

She didn’t answer. I could only hear ragged breathing.

I bolted out of the office. My mom’s assistant, Daniel, was in the hallway.

Ms. Anderson! Mrs. Anderson she was driving too fast the parking garage gate wasn’t fully open she crashed!

I called 911 while we both ran toward the elevators. Daniel was faster than me.

Go ahead!I shouted. I’ll be right behind you!

I twisted my ankle on the stairs but didn’t stop. Save my momplease save my mom,I whispered, tears blurring my vision.

When I finally reached the garage, I saw her car smashed against the concrete wall at the bottom of the ramp. Mom’s bloody arm was hanging out the window. My world collapsed around me.

Ms. Anderson!Daniel waved frantically. Lillian wants to speak to you! Hurry!

I rushed over. Mom’s chest was crushed by the airbag. Blood covered her face and teeth.

Mom, don’t try to talk,I pleaded, taking her hand. The ambulance is coming. You’ll be okay. Everything will be okay.

Mom’s eyes fixed on mine. Anna, Ilove youshe whispered, blood bubbling from her lips.

I know, Mom. I know,I sobbed.

I’m AfraidI wouldn’tget to say itHer voice was fading.

My trembling hand tried to wipe the blood from her face, but there was too much. It kept coming.

Her arm suddenly went limp in my hand.

Mom!I screamed. MOM!!!
