Chapter 93
Anna’s POV:
I trembled under Blake’s touch. My body tensed as an uncomfortable feeling washed over me. I felt exposed, almost humiliated by his sudden demand for affection.
His blue eyes studied me, searching for something. I tried to see past his perfect mask, desperately looking for any genuine emotion.
Was there actual hurt behind those eyes, or just the wounded pride of a man used to getting whatever he wanted? I tried fo understand if he was truly complaining about my lack of emotional vestment.
He must have noticed my hesitation, the way my eyes darted across is face, trying to decipher if there was any truth to his sudden need for affection. His grip on my chin loosened.
“Forget it,” he said, dropping his hand.
I should have felt relieved. Instead, a strange hollowness spread through my chest. A man with no love in his heart was demanding love from me. How could he so casually expect me to pour out feelings for him when he’d given me nothing in return?
I’d loved him once. God, how I’d loved him. I’d given him everything my youth, my career aspirations, my independence. And what had he given me? A cold marriage, constant mind games, and a home where I constantly competed with his stepsister.
My love had dried up, like a river in drought. There simply wasn’t anything left to give.
Blake seemed to sense my emotional withdrawal.
He should’ve realized that things between us had shifted. Now, it was all about interests. I liked his money, and he liked my body.
He took my hand, leading me to the leather couch by the window. I sank into the soft cushions while he remained standing, towering over me and forcing me to meet his desperate gaze. I felt my cheeks heat up and instinctively looked away.
“You left quite a mark last night. I couldn’t stop thinking about that pretty mouth of yours all night. I didn’t even sleep a wink,” he said, his fingers touching the hickey on his neck. There was something possessive in his tone that made my skin flush.
“I want you to do it again,” he continued, his voice dropping lower. “Right now.”
My heart rate picked up. I looked up, and Blake’s eyes were shining with intensity, but my words seemed to dim that spark, leaving him looking deflated.
“Didn’t you spend all night comforting Claire?” The words slipped out before I could stop them.
One sentence out, and I immediately regretted it. Watching Blake’s clear smile that he didn’t manage to hide in time, I wondered why I couldn’t just keep my cool.
Blake didn’t give me a chance to backpedal. He tilted his head, thumb covering the mark on his neck, the veins on the back of his
hand betraying his restraint.
“If it weren’t for you, my relationship with my sister wouldn’t be as fragile as it is now,” he said coldly.
The words hit me like a punch to the gut. My heart contracted painfully in my chest.

“So I’m the problem?” I asked, stunned by how quickly he’d shifted from wanting my love to treating me like an i
Just seconds ago, he’d been practically begging for affection, and now he was looking at me with something close to disgust.

I raised my stiff hand, trying to reach for his, I didn’t want to fight, ot now. He was so close, yet he dodged my touch. He straightened his tie again, his gaze intense but controlled.
He narrowed his eyes and let of a soft laugh. “You look so cute when you’re jealous.”
“In that case,” I said with a cold laugh as I stood up, I might as well go have dinner with Emily. At least someone will appreciate my company instead of making me feel unwelcome.”
“You’re leaving?” Blake’s words came through clenched teeth.
“Yes. I’m not in the habit of sticking around to be insulted.”
“So sensitive. Can’t take even a single comment?”
I turned away without looking at him, just waving my hand dismissively toward the empty air behind me. The only sound from him was a suppressed intake of breath.
Just as I reached the office door; my vision suddenly went black. I’d stood up too quickly, and my unsteady body practically slammed into the door, my abdomen hitting the doorknob with a pain so intense I nearly passed out. Still, I pretended I was fine.
In the darkness, I managed a small smile, pushing away Blake’s hand as he rushed to support me. “I’m fine.”
I blinked in the darkness, trying to signal to Blake that I could still see. The dizziness only got worse when he picked me up, making me feel like the room was spinning around me.
