Elizabeth was too stunned to breathe. Marvin hadn't talked that gently for quite a long time. Was he pretending to be a good elder brother in front of his fiancee?
Elizabeth stared at him, her eyes complicated. Marvin's gaze had a tinge of evilness, merely visible from her perspective. Sleeping with him for so long, Elizabeth knew his intention quite well. It was none other than a threat. Harsh punishments were awaiting her if she didn't behave herself.
Elizabeth wanted to say something but couldn't utter a single word.
Just before she opened her mouth, there suddenly came Ann's sweet and soft voice, "Marvin, don't go too far. Give Eliza some time to accept the truth."
...
Marvin had to give up in consideration of Ann's insistence. In the end, she sat to Marvin's right at the table as his fiancee. Different from what he was like yesterday, Marvin kept putting dishes to Ann's bowl and even peeling shrimps for her from time to time. What a gentle boyfriend! Elizabeth couldn't bear to look at them, thus dining in silence from the beginning to the end.
...
Ann spent the night here for the first time.
Elizabeth witnessed Marvin escort her to his bedroom upstairs while holding her waist and shut the door.
What a sleepless night! Marvin's bedroom was right next door but she could hear nothing because of the soundproof walls. Above the quietness, those arousing moans seemingly had floated to Elizabeth's ears. Her close friend from childhood was making love to her man aboveboard.
Marvin was already twenty-eight, old enough to get married and have children. Elizabeth knew clearly that she would lose him someday, but didn't expect it to be that soon. What's more, his bride-to-be was her best friend. During the harsh torture, she used to hope that Marvin could get fed up with her as soon as possible. Once getting married, for the reputation of his future wife and the Bennett family, there was no way for him to harass her quite often.
Elizabeth should be happy, but why did she feel sad instead?
...
Elizabeth eventually fell asleep.
In a daze, she felt her legs got separated by two familiar large hands with force. Marvin forced himself on her again.
Catching a glimpse of the man venting his desire violently above her body, Elizabeth couldn't help but scream with shock.
"My beloved Elizabeth, you seem to be sad because I'm getting married? Don't make a fuss. You know very well that I won't let you off the hook even after I get married, little pet. Never imagine escaping from my bed before I get tired of you!"
Elizabeth glared at him, his eyes crimson. "Is it intermarriage for interest? Do you truly love Ann or wanna piss me off on purpose?"
Marvin patted her face with a sneer. "Stop flattering yourself. I'm going to marry Ann because she is a well-educated noble lady and our family backgrounds match. More importantly, she's pregnant with my child."
Elizabeth was too sad to cry.
She opened her mouth and shook her head heavily. "Impossible! It's out of the question!"
Marvin couldn't be more composed. "Maybe it's a son, the eldest heir to the Bennett family."
A sharp pain shot up Elizabeth's abdomen all of a sudden. She reached out to cover it at once. Though it happened several months ago, the pain had been etched in her mind for good. She used to be pregnant with Marvin's child, too. Yet, the poor child didn't have a chance to survive. Marvin sent her to the hospital in person and witnessed the whole process of the abortion.
