Chloe sauntered over and swung the door open, just as she'd expected. Connor stood there, a stormy look plastered on his face. He was clearly there to confront her. Not one to hide her amusement, Chloe smirked and teased, "Did you go and break some poor girl's heart?"
Connor's gaze bore into her, icy and intense, like a flame trapped in frost, ready to ignite at any moment. Chloe remained unbothered, her demeanor relaxed and casual.
Her room had a liquor cabinet, and the butler had already told her she could help herself to whatever she fancied. She had just uncorked a bottle of 1985 Sassicaia and poured herself another half glass in a tall wine glass.
She walked over to Connor, handed him the glass, and chided, "I don't know if you are genuinely clueless or just playing dumb, but Diana's been into you for ages. It takes guts for a girl to lay her heart on the line, only to have it stomped on."
Connor took the glass but didn't drink. His expression was still grim. "So, you think I should accept her feelings?"
Chloe saw right through him. He'd come to see how she'd react, but he was sorely disappointed. Chloe showed no signs of jealousy, just a laid-back indifference and even a bit of sympathy for Diana. If anything, her strongest reaction was curiosity. How detached must she be to treat Diana's confession like juicy gossip?
