Dr. Colt couldn't quite wrap his head around why Mr. Shaw was so insistent on walking him home. After all, it was just a short stroll away. But Mr. Shaw was adamant, so Dr. Colt didn't argue. He grabbed his medical bag, bid them farewell, and headed out.
Just as he reached the door, Wayne caught up with him. "I'll tag along," he said with a grin. "I've been meaning to catch up with that wild card, Cassie."
And with that, the whole group made their exit, leaving the restaurant suddenly quiet. Only the Shaw couple, Kash, Isaac, Chloe, and Connor remained. The evening had been a whirlwind of unexpected events, one after another, especially with Chloe suddenly declaring the Shaws as her godparents. She was still processing the surprise.
But Chloe, ever confident, took Connor’s hand and stepped forward. "Godfather, Godmother, this is my husband, Connor," she introduced formally.
Connor had arrived late and was in the dark about the earlier happenings, including Chloe's newfound godparents. But he rolled with it. "Mr. Neil, Ms. Ruby, it's been ages. Do you remember me?"
Ruby seemed to remember too. It was Isaac’s fifth birthday, and his wish was for her to take him to the amusement park. Throughout their visit, she’d noticed a little boy sitting quietly on a bench, not joining in the fun. After two hours, he was still there. She approached him and asked, "Hey there, who are you here with? Where are your parents?"
The boy looked at her with clear eyes. "I'm waiting for my sister. She went to get me something to eat and told me to wait here. She’ll be back soon," he replied.
