Connor stood next to her, noticing her discomfort. She was still in her bridesmaid dress, now marked with fresh blood. Gently, he took off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.

Lucas sat on a bench in the hallway, staring blankly at his blood-stained hands, lost in thought. Not long after, the doors to the emergency room swung open, and a nurse came out with a serious look on her face.

“Who here is family to Linda?” she asked urgently. Lucas didn’t respond at first, his mind elsewhere, but the question snapped him back to reality. He quickly stood, “I am. I’m her husband.”

The nurse explained the dire situation, “The patient, who is pregnant, is in critical condition. The bullet missed her heart but damaged other organs, and she’s lost a lot of blood. The baby has been without oxygen for too long, and the amniotic fluid has broken. We need to deliver the baby immediately.”

The news hit everyone like a shockwave. “How can we deliver the baby in this condition?” Lucas asked, his voice filled with worry.

“There are definitely risks,” the nurse replied firmly. “A natural delivery isn’t possible; we need to perform a cesarean section. Doing both surgeries simultaneously is incredibly risky.”
