Connor finally stopped in his tracks, his chest rising and falling slightly. He didn't turn around, though, as if he was holding something back. Chloe spun around playfully and ended up right in front of him. Diana, with a teasing grin, tugged on Connor’s tie and asked, “So, compared to them, who’s prettier?”
Connor looked down at her, the woman so close, and felt his anger bubble over. He couldn't hold it back any longer. Grabbing Chloe by the waist, he pulled her down onto the couch in the living room. His kisses were urgent and intense, filled with a mix of rage and a jealousy he couldn’t control. It was like a flood bursting through a dam, rushing over everything.
Chloe watched his angry expression but couldn’t help the small smile that crept onto her lips. There was a glint of triumph in her eyes. Today, she was unusually compliant, and their kisses grew more passionate. They stumbled from the living room, up the stairs, through the hallway, and finally into the bedroom...
Two hours later, the sound of running water echoed from the bathroom. Chloe lay on the bed, completely spent. She was exhausted and felt a twinge of regret. Maybe she shouldn’t have poked the bear. Now she was paying the price.
Before long, Connor emerged, wearing a gray bathrobe, loosely tied, showing off his toned abs. Normally, Chloe wouldn’t miss a chance to admire them, following the rule of never passing up a good thing. But today, she just glanced, then turned away, feeling utterly drained.
Connor felt a bit of remorse himself. He realized he’d been a bit too wild, maybe a tad too forceful. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he leaned down and kissed her hair gently. His voice was soft, “Want me to carry you to the bath?”
Chloe turned to him, “Not mad anymore?”
Connor knew. Chloe’s earlier words were meant to rile him up, and then she used this way to calm him down. Once he figured it out, most of his frustration had already melted away. Especially since she’d been so bold today. The thought of her enchanting presence danced in his mind, stirring him again.
Connor swallowed hard, “I just want you to know, I’m your husband, not some pet.”
