All eyes zeroed in on the source of the commotion. A tall, striking man, with an air of confidence, casually made his way onto the stage. Chloe’s jaw dropped for a split second when she recognized him—it was Connor. What on earth was he doing here?
Even Isaac, perched on the second floor, was caught off guard. He turned to his buddy, confused about when Connor had slipped away. Yet, amidst the surprise, a thrill ran through him. This was shaping up to be quite the spectacle. Still, a knot of worry formed in his stomach. Connor, the adored darling of the Sartori family, was more accustomed to boardrooms than boxing rings. How could he possibly take on someone like Grant?
Isaac hadn’t expected to run into Chloe either. He’d just come to enjoy the drama, hoping it wouldn’t turn into a disaster. He rushed downstairs as Chloe, bewildered, approached Connor. “What are you doing here?” she asked.
Connor didn’t answer, didn’t even look her way. His attention was on the host. “What are the rules here? Can anyone just step up and challenge the last winner?” he demanded.
The host hesitated, caught off guard. “Technically, yes, but...” But no one had ever dared to challenge twice in a row. Mr. Grant was a first-time challenger himself.
Connor’s voice was unwavering. “I want to challenge him.” His eyes locked onto Grant, leaving no doubt about his intentions.
The room fell silent for a beat, then erupted into a flurry of whispers. “What’s going on today? The WBO never had this kind of drama!”
“Isn’t it obvious?” someone whispered. “The guy’s Connor Sartori, the King of Eldridge. And the lady, Ms. Chloe, is his wife. She lost to Grant, and now he’s here to win back her honor.”
“No way. Didn’t you hear Chloe call Grant ‘friend’? They seemed to have a special bond, fighting so seamlessly. I thought they were a couple!”
