"What's the big deal about an engagement anyway?"
Kent was looking pretty grim, having tried calling Eve several times with no luck. Right now, both sets of parents were seated in the place of honor, waiting for the bride and groom-to-be to serve them tea. Claire and Kent were already in their seats, but the couple was nowhere to be found.
Claire was visibly annoyed too. "Where on earth are they?"
The emcee chimed in, "We couldn't get ahold of Mr. Pax and Ms. Eve, but the folks at the entrance said they haven't left. Maybe they're just chilling in their room."
Claire snapped, "Go get them down here."
Someone quickly went to fetch them. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, curious about what was going on.
Five minutes later, Claire's aide returned, saying, "Ms. Eve and Mr. Cassie aren't in Mr. Cassie's room. We've checked the nearby guest rooms too, and there's no sign of them."
The aide hesitated, "It's just that..."
Claire shot him a steely glare. "Just what? Spit it out."
"I found this at Mr. Connor's door," the aide said, holding up a pearl earring, unmistakably Eve's from today.
Claire shrugged it off, "That's Eve's, alright. Probably just dropped it by accident."
