Claire glanced toward the entrance and there was Connor, standing right in the doorway, with Chloe just behind him. Claire had already sensed that her plan had unraveled. Connor must have figured it out and flipped the script on her. But where had she gone wrong?

Connor's timing was impeccable, almost as if he'd planned it. Claire's gaze was icy as she looked at him. “Connor, you must be feeling pretty smug right now,” she said with a hint of bitterness.

But Connor's face was anything but smug. He looked serious, almost somber. “There's nothing for me to be proud of. If anyone should be feeling that way, it’s you. You wanted to use this tactic back on Paradise Island, and now, here we are, just as you planned.”
