"Connor, let me out," Claire demanded, her voice tinged with frustration.
Connor remained calm as ever. "Sister, just hang tight here for a bit. Once the wedding's wrapped up, I'll make sure you get to a beautiful retreat in Switzerland. It's way nicer than this place. I know it's a bit of a hassle, but try to bear with it, okay?"
With that, Connor left, leaving Claire seething. In her anger, she vented by smashing everything in sight, but deep down, she felt utterly powerless.
As the wedding day approached, Chloe found herself surprisingly excited. She'd always thought she was above the fuss of weddings, but visiting the venue changed that.
The ceremony was set for St. Petersburg Cathedral in Eldridge City. The solemn and sacred vibe there felt like it could cleanse the soul. Connor picked it because the cathedral was surrounded by sycamore trees. Even in winter, when the leaves had turned a brilliant gold, they clung to the branches longer than usual this year. The golden expanse looked like knights in shining armor, guarding a sacred castle of love.
Chloe fell in love with the place instantly.
In the Eldridge Elites community, there was a tradition: the night before the wedding, the bride stayed at her family home. The next day, when the groom came to collect her, the family would set up obstacles for him to overcome before he could reach the bride.
Chloe's family home was in Riverbrook, but Leah and Ann had already made their way to Eldridge City days before. After some discussion, they all decided Chloe would leave from the Shaw family residence.
The night before the big day, all four Shaw brothers were back home.
Chloe joined them for dinner, and each member of the Shaw family had a special gift for her. Wayne had an autograph book filled with signatures from Hollywood's biggest stars. Winston gifted her a rare piece of ambergris, which thrilled her.
